Pacific Northwest - Portland Wheelmen Pioneer Century (previously the 'Spring')

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Anyone doing this on Saturday (6/2)? Was known as the Spring Century for a number of years but has reverted back to a previous name. Starts/ends at the fairgrounds in Canby. Two loops: 45 flat miles or 55 moderately hilly miles (~3100 feet) - do both loops for a century. I'll probably just do the 55 - unless a large BF frieght train gets going to pull me along the second loop.

It was a great time last year but I will be in Utah for family fun this weekend. Hope you have a great time!

I am planning on doing the 55 I think. I haven't registered yet...but I feel up to it I guess. I however, do not feel up to a century right now. I'm saving myself for Barlow trail... ;)

Update:
My wife is riding the 45 miler with a small group, I'm doing the 55.
We have several folks meeting at our house in Wilsonville at 8am. By the time we're checked in and all, I'd say that puts us starting around 8:40-8:45. If that time works for you guys, I certainly wouldn't mind the company on the 55 mile route.

Yeah, I don't blame you for wanting to start earlier...but I'm not doing the full century and can't really start before 8:30 or 8:40. Jakey, is that a bit too late for you as well?

I can probably make that work...

OK Guys hope to see you some time tomorrow
take care

Shoot - I wish I'd seen this earlier. I'd have liked to do the 55 with you guys. If I lived closer, I'd make a mad dash for it. As it sits now, I'm riding a 3500' 43 miler with Velo. This'll be the first time I ride up Newberry Rd. - lower mile runs to 17%.

It was a great day for a ride. Jakey, Scotty, Rahul, Milton and, myself tortured each other on the fifty-five. Seems like the food was the best that has ever been. With only one rest stop on the first 55 loop it really tasted good with tortilla and chicken with stir fry veggies. Chris King was even there helping to serve it up. Great guy and great components. On my next build I am going with the bottom brackets and hubs. I have officially started my farmer’s tan now so looking geeky again.

I'll second that the food was awesome at the break and finish - well worth the $20 (pre-). That climb was a good challenge with a rewarding decent. I started at 8:45 and it ended up getting pretty darn warm. Mostly rode solo, which was fine, but I don't think I could have pulled off the 100 without an earlier start and some wheels to grab. Velocity, did you complete the full century? Slice2, that ride sounded like a killer - how did it go?

i wound up just doing the 55... it was a super fun ride. having mr king make me lunch was a treat.
i started later than y'all (just after 9 -- i got a bit turned around driving down there), but did enjoy getting home early by doing the shorter distance.
rode han solo, like dtrain. loved the climb; loved the decent more.
what's next on the schedule?

Just found this post on Friday and decided to give it a shot. Buddy and I got kind of a late start around 8ish and planned on doing the full 100. Pulled in for a GREAT lunch - had to keep from eating to many of those fajitas :D Dragged back up out of the chair and did the second loop and boy oh boy was it warm out there.
Great ride and nice scenery - the climb was awesome. Will be doing this again next year.
Later,
Ed

There's a Strawberry Century in Lebanon on Saturday:

I've heard it's a great route and I'll be looking to put some miles in...but I'm not sure that I'm up for that much travel given other things I need to do this coming weekend.
There's a choice of rides on the 23rd/24th (Watermelon, Tour de Blast, and Barlow).

I did the 55 by 12 and called it good. I had a BBQ the next day and that was it Had to go prepare.
Geez - fajitas served by Mister Headset himself? How do you guys rate? :) Sorry I missed that one.

Going up Newberry was a grunt in 36x25 - stalled it a couple of times.
