Hello dirt Riders,

I was an avid MTB rider years ago I had one of the first Giant ATX 760s when they came out.

anyway the frame is the smallest size The LBS talked me into it "Its stronger" than the larger frame , anyway its always been too small.

Ok ive been posting a bunch in many forums looking for a solution to my 5' 10" 29" inseam and real long torso.

everybike I own is too small (3) top tubes are too short and handlebars have huge stack heights.

anyway the only off the shelf option may be a 29er frame. my stand over requirment is 30" with shoes but need around a 23" or a bit more TT . need the bars up too preferably without 10 tousand spacers. My cross check has a 5.25" stack height, 120mm stem that rises YUK still not tall enough!

I also like the ideas that most 29er frames I see have top mounted cables thats a plus in my book.

1) with my short legs long torso would a 29er be a good choice im also a clyde 247 LB

2) How would a 29er be for longer rides 50 -100mile, the geometry seems right in line if not a bit more relaxed with /than XC frames. 29er wheel bases are faily long but chainstays are average or on the short side.

3) in general will rear racks /fenders work (I Dont use panniers) , Im a carradice junkie (how much tire clearance for fenders) ill be using 32 or 35 road slicks most of the time on 700 c touring rims.

many thanks

I usually ride a 19" (medium) frame but have a 17" FS XC bike that's a bit big, however, for the type of ride you describe I use a 21" hybrid...its a perfect fit...long top tube, higher bars, good height for my 30" inseam...I do a 50km commute daily, and have frequently used it to get to the cottage (170km)

I keep it in black paint to fool our bike thieves into looking at the better bikes, but its a very nice bike, too bad they don't make these old Schwinns anymore

You should remember to lift up your gut before taking the inseam measurement.

For an "off the shelf" 29er with a long top tube, look to Gary Fisher. Since you seem gung-ho at making a commuter, consider building up a Karate Monkey.
