Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - Changing usernames - your questions answered here

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
There have been a fair few questions about this, and I thought I'd just clarify things.
Yes, usernames can be changed, within reason. If you just signed up, and used your real name or your email in your name, we can fix that for you. I suggest that you don't post until we change it.
Please keep in mind that we're not really inclined to change names just for the heck of it. The primary reason is because if you've posted more than a handful of times, chances are you've been quoted a few times as well. Changing your name will make a mess out of threads where you've been quoted, and the quotes defeat the point of changing your name for personal reasons, as it's still out there. But we fully understand the need for privacy, so that's something we're always willing to work with you on.
Also, please make sure that the name you want to use is not already in use before you send your request.
Scroll down to find a post by Tom, and click on his username to contact him about a name change. Or just post your question here. Someone will get back to you.

You can now send these requests to Tom Stormcrowe. :)
Hello,
I can't figure out how to post a new thread in a section of this bike forum. Can someone message me where the instructions are?

Why would you allow someone change their User ID, keep the same avitar, sig and bad attitudes yet delete all of their previous posts from the original ID?

Can you provide an example?

I do have a specific example, but I don't really wanna call someone out in public. The change wasn't a big deal, but as I tried to search the posts from the old user ID, I not only couldn't find the user, I couldn't find any of their old posts. Nothing left but quotes in others posts. And it's clearly the same person, same attitude, same avitar, even says "formerly___" under the pic.
I guess my biggest peeve is that it's always the condescending, know it all prick who erases all of their past posts because they know that their words will be used against them in debate later...as it should be.
but why the need for a new ID?
You can PM or email me if your question is not rhetorical.
It's possible for a member to edit their own posts, but they cannot do anything where they have been quoted. There have been only a handful of members that had any significant post count and got their username changed. Some have been allowed all new accounts, due to things like stalkers, or using their real name when they signed up. But without a specific example, I cannot give you a sufficient response.
Brian, I stupidly put my e-mail address in the user name field. Please change it to user name - Radar.
email address is *removed*. Thanx. ./ron
I sent an email asking for a change - never heard a word back from anyone.
I guess that means - no!?

OK. When I recently registered, I wanted to use the username I have used for years on other sites:
"Rick from Lafayette". In some sites spaces weren't allowed and in some sites there was a limit to the number of characters and I have used Rickfromlafayette or RickLafayette.
Any of these would be preferable to "Rick from Lafay".
Thanks for your time and consideration.

I would like to change my username because I can't spell. :D

Can I change my name to jasony0423? jason0617 is a little reminder of an ex gf, and that just ain't cool.

Nope. You should wear that mistake forever. Like a red "A".
Or send Tom a message. :D

Or I might notice the thread. done, or at least it will be momentarily.
But Tom, all 72 of his posts will now be under a different username. What's if he's been quoted?
