There have been a fair few questions about this, and I thought I'd just clarify things.

Yes, usernames can be changed, within reason. If you just signed up, and used your real name or your email in your name, we can fix that for you. I suggest that you don't post until we change it.

Please keep in mind that we're not really inclined to change names just for the heck of it. The primary reason is because if you've posted more than a handful of times, chances are you've been quoted a few times as well. Changing your name will make a mess out of threads where you've been quoted, and the quotes defeat the point of changing your name for personal reasons, as it's still out there. But we fully understand the need for privacy, so that's something we're always willing to work with you on.

Also, please make sure that the name you want to use is not already in use before you send your request. I can generally respond to emails faster than PMs, but consolidate all those changes and do them in the evening.

You can now send these requests to Brian, donnamb, lotek, Tom Stormcrowe, or Maelstrom. :)

Hello,

I can't figure out how to post a new thread in a section of this bike forum. Can someone message me where the instructions are?

Why would you allow someone change their User ID, keep the same avitar, sig and bad attitudes yet delete all of their previous posts from the original ID?

Why would you allow someone change their User ID, keep the same avitar, sig and bad attitudes yet delete all of their previous posts from the original ID?

Can you provide an example?

I do have a specific example, but I don't really wanna call someone out in public. The change wasn't a big deal, but as I tried to search the posts from the old user ID, I not only couldn't find the user, I couldn't find any of their old posts. Nothing left but quotes in others posts. And it's clearly the same person, same attitude, same avitar, even says "formerly___" under the pic.

I guess my biggest peeve is that it's always the condescending, know it all prick who erases all of their past posts because they know that their words will be used against them in debate later...as it should be.

but why the need for a new ID?

You can PM or email me if your question is not rhetorical.

It's possible for a member to edit their own posts, but they cannot do anything where they have been quoted. There have been only a handful of members that had any significant post count and got their username changed. Some have been allowed all new accounts, due to things like stalkers, or using their real name when they signed up. But without a specific example, I cannot give you a sufficient response.

I sent an email asking for a change - never heard a word back from anyone.

I guess that means - no!?
