247 miles in just over 6 days of heavenly camping in the San Juan Islands. I've posted my thoughts before but I'll reiterate them again, the Burley Nomad Trailer is sensational...........carries all you can ask for, you just don't know it's there My Randonee has some chain problems which seem to only show up when I'm loaded down. I got a chance to really test my NiteRider Trail Rat 2.0 on the trip and it is worth every penny I spent!
For those who might head over to the San Juans, the roads on Lopez island have recently been "oiled" and they are pretty rough!!.....very few smooth roads anywhere on the island. Odlin Park has some very private hiker/biker sites with beautiful views of the water. Spencer Spit is a more refined park but you ride 1 mile to Odlin off the ferry or 8 miles to Spencer. And Odlin is 3 miles from the center of the village which offers showers, full service grocery store and a nice little bakery!
San Juan Island has also oiled their roads but the gravel they used is much finer and the roads are much smoother. I stayed at San Juan County Park which is 10 miles west of the ferry/main town. If you love amazing sunsets and views across the water into Victoria, this is the place for you! I'd drop some pictures on you but seem to have problems loading photo on this site...........anyone have some helpful hints! Lots of nice hills to work up an appetite, I found the drivers to be very polite...........and they need to be given the narrow roads over most of both islands.
I could ramble on and on but if anyone is interested in more, just give me a holler.
Can't wait for the next adventure.
