Mountain Biking - Juicy 7 and juicy 5?....

I am contemplating some juicy's and have been looking at reviews and such. I notice that people either love them or hate them. A lot of people say they squeel like mad and are a pain to adjust. It seems most people say they love them here, but just thought I'd check outright and see what people's thoughts are who have used them. Is there a big difference between the 5s and 7s? Will there be a big performance difference from my bb7s?

I did a search but didn't find much.

I've got juicy 7's on two bikes now(160's). I have never had any problems with adjustment, squeeling or otherwise.

I got them originally because I heard they were the easiest brake to set up, and that they could be run Moto style (flipped) without any adjustments, bleeding, hose lenghtening/shortening (mmmm....shortening).

I love them. I have bb7s on another bike (I love them also) and can say that the big difference for me is the feel of the levers , the modulation, and the power and you can produce with the juicy 7's with a light grab of one finger.

Although, I must be honest, the main reason I went with the juicy's on my 2nd bike( the bb7's were more than adequate) is so that I didn't have to worry about riding alot in the rain/muck/sand with them and having to maintain the cables and housing like I had with the bb7's . You have to be diligent with maintainence in order to maintain a really great feeling mechanical disc brake (as it compares to a hydro). I used to love to spend time working on bikes, but I am becoming lazy and old and possibly senile.

I am not experienced with the juicy 5 so maybe someone else can esplain the difference between them and the 7's

I have the 5's on my Stumpy FSR...I can't say that I love them...but they work well. First problem is the modulation and "feel" of the lever. These brakes are either on or off...not much in the way of modulation or "middle ground." Don't get me wrong...these things grab like a savage...but with too much lock up, no matter how soft you are on the levers. I've also had squeak and squeal problems. I have the Roundagon rotors, although I've heard that the Clean Sweep rotors are much better.
They are a snap to setup, maintain, and adjust.
I personally like the feel of the Juicy ultimates and the Magura Martas much better. I also like the levers of the Shimano disc brakes much better than the Juicy series levers...

Yep. Everyone bashes Hayes for this, I've found the juicies are as bad or worse.

Yeah, I think they have too much power and not enough control!

Thanks for the replies. This is kind of what I was reading elsewhere too. Kind of disappointing. I may just stick with my bb7s then because I can't afford anything more expensive than the juicy 7s.
