I want one of the big, shallow front baskets (15x10x4 3/4; basket 137 in their online catalog). They seem cheap to me, which makes me question their strength.

For those of you out there with Wald front baskets:

How long have you had it?
How much weight have you put in it?
How durable is it?

My girlfriend's bike has the dual rear pannier baskets and I highly suggest mounting them securely with your own nuts and bolts. Otherwise it sounds like a shopping cart on gravel.

I have a 30+ year old Wald "paper boy" basket that survived 6 years of paper deliveries and at least 5 years of my younger brother using it on his grocery getter. Dunno if the current ones are made the same or not, but I will be finding out shortly. I need to order some for a beater/cruiser that I am building up.

I've been using my rear mounted Wald baskets for grocerys. Seems to be holding up just fine.

I've had the 133 removable front basket for about 20 years now (yikes...has it been that long?)

Other than paint chips and slight bending out of the original shape it's held up fine. I don't overload it as I don't like my steering compromised.

I love mine. I have one like the OP mentioned on the front of my fixed gear commuter. I've had a backpack in it, nothing too heavy. On my three speed I have the dual fold out Wald baskets on the rear and the deep permanent-mount front basket on the front. I've carried 50+ of groceries, properly balanced. Just don't leave out in the rain, the baskets are galvanized but will get ugly after some weather.

They're bullet proof but heavy, when you lift it you'll say "geez I hope this thing's bullet proof". I got the biggest one, and it holds more wieght than I'm willing to put on my front wheel. Get some bunjees though, stuff in the basket can pop in the air over big bumps.
