Subject asks it basically.. I dropped a frame off today.. the place was a bit industrial for my liking, but I left it anyway.. hopefully all turns out fine..
anyway, chasing cured powdercoat out of BB threads.. no sweat if I have the tap? major PITA?

Your life will be easier if they mask off the treads before powder coating. They can mask the threaded area or some folks will use plugs.

The problem with not keeping most of the stuff out of there is it can make it hard to get a set of taps started.

Thanks Dave. I told the guy about the threads, and headtube, masking these areas off etc., and the guy nodded.. hopefully he's competent!

They don't need to mask it, they usually blow the powder out of the threads with an air gun :)

Hearing different things about masking - have to mask with foil (not tape), don't mask and chase out the threads (who has the patience and money to buy all these threaded rods?), you don't need to mask - they just blow out the powder.

Which is it?!?!

An easy way is to use some old cups for the B.B. shell and appropriate sized bolts for anything else, eg : rear hanger. My powder coater doesn't blow it out with an air-gun, I learnt that the hard way, but he does a very nice finish.

Most powdercoaters are competent enough to cover threaded things
