A few photos I took at the race Thursday night.
Great race, fast & furious pace as one might expect!

The 1.1 mile 8 turn course incorporates two slight uphill sections through downtown
Basking Ridge NJ. The 40 lap criterium got off to a frenzied start, the pace was fast and
furious, with a large pack of top Pro contenders that looked like a one big colorful freight
train streaming along.
There was some good action early in the race.
Two laps in Navigators rider David O'laughlin went to the front and strung out the field,
as there were attacks from the get go! The field accordioned back and forth, for a number
of laps, then nearing the half way point, it was a rider from Colavita-Sutter,
(I'm not sure if it was Acton or Wrenor, or Damiani)- who tried to break-away.
He held the lead for about 5 laps or so but eventually the pack reeled him back
and it was a big freight train once again.
The group splintered at times, becoming strung out, and then bunching up again.
About a third of the way into the race there was an incident in Turn 3, a downhill left hander.
A rider from CRCA/Empire touched his brakes (you could hear the squeal) while leaned over,
probably doing 25-30 mph! Well, he went down in a mili-second! Washed the front wheel,
and went sliding into the outside curb. another rider followed him into the outside curb and fence.
The Empire rider suffered road rash, some cuts, and probably had his pride beat up too.
But he got up after a few minutes with some help and was ok. The second unknown rider,
remounted and continued on. There were plenty of riders dropping off, or getting pulled,
as the rapid pace and two uphills took the toll on the pack. The pace fell off slightly about
two thirds into the event. Then near the end, say the last 1/4 of the race, the tempo
picked up once again. It was about 3/4 of the way in, when Navigators eventually took
control of the pack, and re-organized the riders in the main group to pull back the lead
5 or 6 riders.
With about 7 laps to go, the pack was two distinct groups, with riders from Colavita,
Navigators, Rite-Aid, AEG, Jelly Belly and Kelly at the front half. Navigators had two
guys up front and they were looking strong. At the Bell lap it was down to those six
teams and about 8 to 10 riders...around the course for the last time
and up the finishing hill on N Finley Ave it was House, and Brooks, from Navigators
Kincaid from Rite-Aid, Acton from Colavita, Norris from AEG and Cody from Jelly Belly.
The pack made their final sprint and lunge towards the line...
as House nipped Kincaid at the stripe, thanks to Brooks's lead out, who got 3rd,
and Acton and Norris fighting it out for the last spot on the podium. Pretty exciting
race all in all, with Navigators showing their strength and continued run of victories in 2007.
