I joined three friends this morning and we rode a club ride that takes us through the country side and visits 5 covered bridges. I'm sorry to say the camera was left at home:mad: But if you've seen one covered bridge you've seen them all. It isn't the covered bridges I'm upset about - it's the restored 57 Chevy and the 1949 Schwinn Black Phantom I wasn't able to photograph. We stopped at the home of a freind of one of our riders and I was blown away with his bike collection. In addition to the Black Phantom he had 30 additional bikes, some restored and some works-in-progress. He shows them and had several awards displayed in his workshop.
Back to the ride. It was hot but the wind wasn't too bad. Around 10 miles into the ride I discovered I had been riding in the big chain ring:eek: When I shifted down one of the riders said she was glad to see I wasn't going to whip their butts on the hills all day in the big chain ring. On a couple of the hills I had run out of gears but didn't want to shift into the granny (or what I thought was the granny). The hills were a lot easier in the middle chain ring and I never had the need to go any lower:) Maybe I'm finally getting a little better at hill climbing:rolleyes: This ride had plenty of rollers, a couple steep climbs and one longer climb we don't usually find around here.
Now I need to rest up for the Strawberry ride in the morning. I've been told there is one heck of a hill on it:(
Beverly, you must be a strong rider, because I know when I'm on the big ring. Is that the covered bridge festival just over in Indiana ? I don't know where you are in Ohio. I used to go over there all the time by motorcycle. Anyhow it sounds like a fun ride.

I live about 30 miles east of the Indiana border. This tour starts near my home and wanders through the neighboring Preble County. It's a combination of hills with flat areas. I haven't done the one in Indiana but I'm considering the Hilly Hundred on those hills in SE Indiana later this year. I've been told it's a great ride but I've seen pictures of those hills on that route:eek:
I really liked it in the fall. That's what I miss most, I haven't seen the colors change in 5 years. They do somewhat down here, but nothing like the north. Anyhow have a nice ride, I know you will.
Anyone that can do hills in the big chainring has my upmost respect!!!

I think the one you are talking about is over on the opposite side of the state in Park County IN. North of Terre Haute. It's used to be a very large one in October I believe. Haven't been in several years. Last time I went I rode MY motorcycle too George. Great time. That would be a nice place though for a multi day bike ride. Very nice part of the state.

Hey Mike, when I lived up there I used to ride over there all the time. We would stay the whole weekend. It sure is pretty up there and I miss it, but I don't miss the cold. I also sailed on Lake Michigan for 23 years. Man did I use to spend the money on toys, ha ha. :D
Thanks for the memories Beverly and Mike, and keep it coming. I knew you would have fun on the ride Beverly. Ride safe, and keep the wind on your back.
