Remember that Nashbar frame I ordered. I finally got one without damage and just finished building it up.

Specs:

Nashbar P.O.S. frame (thought it was a Kona, but have been told otherwise - still uncertain, so if you know, do tell!)
Manitou Axel Comp fork (soft, gonna order some stiffer springs)
Cane Creek Headset (lying in parts box)
Thomson Stem (off of my Intense - Replaces w/ RF Diabolous)
Easton Riser Bar - Pricepoint on Sale!
Pedro's Grips
Shimano LX brake(s) - buddy still has the rear on his bike, so I set up the calipers on the rear, but using the left (in USA the front) lever.
Race Face Cranks - Stoker cranks off a tandemn. (in parts box) Gonna put a bash guard on non-drive side.
Race Face bottom bracket (in parts box)
Shimano 646 pedals (in parts box)
Shimano Alivio hubs laced to Araya rims (old 7 speed picked up on the cheap)
WTB Tires (can't remember name, but similar to Velociraptors)
Nashbar seat post
Serfas Junk saver saddle (in parts box).

Total out of pocket: $260.
Total worth: $600 +/- (full retail replacement value)

Here's a pic: (don't look too close, the garage is a mess!!!)

here's the hub, I'm playing around with gearing, so I kept a couple on there. Right now, I'm 2:1 with perfect chain line, and I think I'll keep it there.

I can run 30:15 without a chain tensioner. If I run a 30:16, I've got to add a link and a chain tensioner. If I run a 30:14, (preferred), I have to add the chain tensioner.

I'll probably just get used to the 30:15 for simplicity's sake.

Here's the hub!

Thats sweet. My friend just finished building his ss on a trek carbon frame. Question, how can you run a 30:15 without using a chain tensioner? If the dropouts are not horizontal, wont the wheel be impossible to take off? Unless of course your bike has horizontal droputs.

Not trying to hijack your thread, but are you saying in other countries the front brake isn't on the left? Personally I don't understand why it is on the left anyways. I would think it should be on the right just as on motorcycles.

Not even other countries. PEople sued to MX sometimes run reversed and europe is totally reversed...it isnt common here but it happens...

They sent you a seatpost too?

Dil, yeah, as a matter of fact, I got two of them.

I'd call them and ask for one, if you look at the add, it doesn't make mention of it, but when I ordered it, they included it.

They sent me one when I ordered the first frame I sent back, but seatpost in a seperate package. Then I sent that frame back. When I got the second frame, I didn't even open the box because the box itself was ripped and I could see the damage, so I refused delivery. Then they finally sent me an undamaged frame and a 2nd seatpost.

Probably for all my hassle.

Hey Dil, did you get a seatpost binder bolt? I didn't with either of my frames, and the one I had lying around wasn't the correct diameter. I'm just using standard nut and bolt for now!

Question, how can you run a 30:15 without using a chain tensioner?

Just so happens that the 30:15 ratio allows the chain to be the perfect length to fit in the standard (not-horizontal) drop-outs.

There is a website somewhere, that will provide you with the exact size rings and cogs to run given a specific ratio to fit without a chain tension. You must provide the center to center length of your chainstay. I just got lucky!

Very nice :) I've been debating whether to build up a single speed...or just buy a Kona Unit. I guess building it up is half the fun, eh?

BTW, Pedros Radials are my favorite grip :) Getting tough to find them...

About your 2:1 ratio, i'm thinking abtuo using it on my SS with 24" rear wheel, will ibe able to kick the fonr tend up, or will i need a lower ratio?

I think with a 30:15 on your 24" wheel, you're going to spin out too easily. It'll be too easy a gear. I run a 41:16 on my BMX Cruiser (24" wheels) and that's about right.
