Vega has had an impact on us all with her postings, I think it's time to lift her up in her time of need.

Lets hear it for Vega!

Vega is one immensely cool lady of Foo. When Vega posts, you're guaranteed to be educated, enlightened, moved, amused, or any combination thereof.

You rock, VV.

I am honoured that she has shared some personal thoughts and words with me.
Her kindness has lifted me from some pretty murky depths in the past.
Just one more reason I am proud to be a Carolinian.

I have a story! I was going to start a thread called "Vega Vixen Is My Co-pilot". Here's why:
Yesterday I achieved a personal goal of completing an altered version of day 2 of the Hilly Hundred on my own. I've always been afraid to ride this route alone, as there are some really isolated areas and a lot of climbing. But I was determined to do it, despite the nasty heat, so off I went to knock out 51 hilly miles by myself.

For most of the ride, I was singing to myself or playing "Name that Roadkill". One harder climbs, I would just talk myself up it with, "Good job, keep going, just a little further" type of patter. Around mile 42, I really started to run out of steam (and water), and the last five miles of the ride are just brutal-- no shade, all climbing and a fair amount of traffic. I was heading up one of the last big hills and I realized I was talking myself through it, but I was saying, "Just one more, baybuh. It's all climbin' up one side and slinkin' down the other." The whole rest of the ride I just "baybuh"ed myself until I pulled into my own front yard. I've never said "baybuh" in my life and I rarely slink, but I evidently read a lot of VV's posts, because those words were slinkin' around my brain yesterday until I got home safe and sound. :D

Thanks for being my invisible co-pilot on a difficult ride, VV!

Absolutely! Vega's wit and sparkle and just wowness add so much here. I look forward to reading her posts any time I visit Bike Forums. I would say she is welcome to take my wheel, except I have no doubt she is WAY faster than me, even on my best day.

I was actually thinking of VV on my ride today too. 46.5 miles on the touring bike. Like I often do on my solo rides, I started out telling myself I was just going to take it easy. Well, once I got rolling, I was keeping a pretty good pace up. I did an out and back, and considering that I started a little after 5:30 and made the little general store at King's Gap my turn around point and fueling station,

I had to push the pace to make sure I got home before dark. That kind of turned the ride into sort of a time trial. I kept glancing down at my speed and wondering if I'd be hanging with Vega and her 19mph+ pace.

We can have the party, but no poll this time. Remember all the people that got confused and stepped on the quail and the porcupine trying to poll dance? And I won't even mention what happened with the beef jerky, though it did give spicy teriyaki a whole new meaning.

One of my Foo sisters.

Even in her time of sadness, she somehow finds ways to be the upper for someone else in pain. Her sense of humor seems to find its way to our hearts even during a time when she herself does not feel like laughing. Vega, you give so much. You sacrifice your time for those who are in need, your kind words are always uplifting. Your encouragement to those of us who need it really pulls us through.

Then there are times when you will stand up for what is right, for what you believe in and you will FIGHT for it. And you will fight for someone who is not strong enough to fight for themself. You are an educated woman, a woman who is worldly. A woman who I look up to. A woman I highly respect. And a woman who is my friend. :)

Thank you. For everything. ((hugs))

I remember the day I first saw her in foo, with the old beat up Vega somethingorother in her avatar. I thought she was a guy, and sort of called her one in a thread. After finding out the truth I pmed her and profusely apologized. We got to talking, and pmed back and forth and for some reason I felt like she understood me. That very rarely happens with someone I've just met. If she wasn't in foo there would be a hole, something missing, anytime I don't notice her posting I wonder where she is. She's a light here on bf and I'm glad for having known her. I look forward to meeting her, and hopefully gettin' some Vega lovin'. :D

Your are a clever girl with insightful and sensitive posts.

The widespread use of "bay-buh", "day-um" and "<curious insert user name look>" shows how enamored we are of you.

I really think you are wonderful and a dear friend. :)

:D Oh yeah- so I was out on a 35mi ride (with intervals- yuck) this AM, and TS (or TD, or whatever) Barry is starting make its presence felt here. I was just starting to head back on the loop, and realized why the first 17mi went so easily- 20mph tailwinds, which were now headwinds. First thing I said was "dayyyyyyum" and then I summoned up that inner Vega, ya know, and said "think of this as a TT" (I don't do TTs, but what the hell). I gotta tell ya, though, Tabata squats have nuttin' on doing Tabata into a headwind.

It's all about the WWVD? thing. Hey, we could put that on a jersey, no? :D

Unfortunately for me Vega doesn't know me from a '83 Schwinn 3-speed someone found behind an abandoned barn one night after imbibing too heavily at the VFW and getting lost on the way home, but this thread shows better than anything what FOO is all about.

To VV and all o' yas: WOOT!

Okay, VV, don't go gettin' a swelled heard or somethin'. Not that you aren't entitled, mind you, but it does make it harder to get through doors. And if you can't through doors, you can't do your promised NorCal swing-through this summer. :D 'Cause if you didn't swing out this way, a bunch of us would be all .

BTW, I gots a road bike for ya to use while y'r here - thanks to the miracle of sloping top tubes and adjustable stems - yes, really - I can just about guarantee it'll fit ya juuuuuust fine. It's a Klein, meaning it's aluminum, but it should do ya well, if you don't want to bother bringing the Scott out west.
