Fifty Plus (50+) - Set out to do 30 today... didn't do it

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

And on the way back -when I knew I had it nailed- my reward (in Half Moon Bay). It was gooooood. Really hit the spot and made the rest of the ride easier

Nice, generally flat terrain, with some very long, gentle rollers.
Another bleak, dreary day but if I let that stop me, I'd never ride. I did no enhancement to these pics so you could get a feel for how "moody" it was. I took a few shots but saw my battery going low, so I conserved... right up until it went dead on me at the orchid farm harvest. It was quite a beautiful site. Sorry...

Stopped by where the Mrs and I got married 24 years ago.
The Bach Dynamite & Dancing Society.

Second floor, the glassed in terrace.

It was an amazing day... We had been going through a 7 year drought and that year -for our wedding- that drought ended. Really ended. That's another story.

Anyway, we looked out that terrace, right across the street, to this:

Only it wasn't that calm... I was trying to follow my vows when all I could think was "We're going to die here"... It really was that bad. Scary bad.

Half Moon Bay looking toward the southern "crescent"

And back to the northern crescent...

Some of the boats at Princeton Harbor... these are the sailboats; farther along are the fishing boats where you can buy whole fish and Dungeness crabs right off the boat when they come in.

Another side of Princeton...they used to track satellites here.
They tore that dish down. I don't know what this actually is or does.
I do know on the other side of this is a nice secluded beach where we used to go to get drunk and "party". Boy, were we stupid then.

Here's a little slice of coastal America. Small Town, USA.
I some some stanchions that I had never noticed from the car.
Rule one of cycling for me is: Follow it.
So I went to see what was out there. I found this.

Not a great shot but I liked the sentiment of it.

So, in the end... 35 miles, how was it? Not bad... Of course, heading back was 17 miles into a gusting wind. Nothing awful but enough to make me work for it. Still, it wasn't that hard. My bottom is a lighter sore right now and maybe my legs a bit but I'll do it again...

There is no such thing as free pie. By working for it, you know that lt tastes better.

That's so true... I've eaten Hostess Cherry Pies many, many, many times in my life and it has never tasted that good... this was a little piece of heaven.

Also -while this might fall into the "one small step for man" bucket- this is the farthest I've ever ridden a bike. AND I did more than I set out to do... there's something about beating one's own limitations that is so satisfying. Tonight, I am a happy guy.

Tonight, I am a happy guy.
As you should be. Keep up the good work.

As usual, your pics are breathtaking. If I take a camera on a ride I can bring back some pics of cows and barns.

Nice ride, but if you keep showing pictures like that, I'm going to have to move.

Great ride again Ken. Next time try the Apple, variety being the spice of life and all.

Even in "bleak, dreary" conditions the scenery is great!

There must be something to that or I wouldn't have stayed here all these years.
Still, after 4 or 5 days of unrelenting gray, it does get to be a bit much.
I mean, I don't mind a little but one summer -and a particularly brutal one it was- we got no sun for 30 straight days. It even gets to a seasoned old coastal vet such as myself.
The year before that, we got no fog all summer long.
Normally we get 2, 3 days of fog then 2 or 3 days of sun... repeat ad nauseum.
Ya just never know...
