Road Cycling - Giant TCR1 carbon - as good as the Trek 5200?

I am looking for a new road bike, and had basically set my sights on the Trek 2300 as being in my price range, and I liked the ride the 2300 gave me (loved it, in fact). The TCR1 carbon is basically the equivelent of the Trek 5200, but a lot cheaper.

I have just discovered that I can get the Giant TCR1 carbon for about the same price as the Trek 2300 (this is a limited end of year special at my LBS). This is a full carbon bike with Ultegra groupset, Shimano R540 wheels, etc.

I have ridden the TCR1 and I quite like it. Better than the 5500 and almost as good as the 2300 - as funny as that sounds - but with the comfort of carbon. This is my personal opinion after only very short rides on all of these bikes. I did not like the 5500 all that much - seemed fairly sluggish to me.

So - I am leaning more towards the TCR1 at moment - so before I plonk my money down, does anyone have anything to say about the Giant? Some deep dark secret that I need to know about?

The only things I could find about it not as good as the Trek 2300 were the wheels - the Shimano R540 wheels do not look any where near as cool as the Bontrager Race Lites. And also - the Giant does not have the option of triple chain-rings, whereas the Trek does.

The Trek does look a bit better too...the TCR1 is basically natural carbon colour - black with white decals.

Decisions....decisions....

Ah, the common theme returns.

I have the TCR1 and really love it. I tried the 5200 and liked that too but got a better deal on the Giant which I think weighs a bit less. I swapped the wheels out for lighter, more aero Ksyrium SLs and have had no problems with it. They sell them with MAVIC cosmos over in the states. Don't know much about the Shimanos but you could ask for a credit towards better wheels as a stipulation before buying.

As far as triple chainring goes, unless you're in a hilly region I don't think it's a big deal. Also, lots of people are against the compact frame design which separates these two bikes. I've had no complaints but there are those who have.

In the end I think both bikes are great and it's a matter of personal fit and affordability. I think "Dutchy" has one too and may provide even more insight if he sees this thread.
