I did a few of them back in the end of April when I was down there for a few days. The rides were pretty good. One morning, we stayed mear the coast and another morning we went inland a bit. In April, there was only me, the shop owner, and one other guy. The owner said that in the summer the ride is anywhere from 10 to a few dozen.

We ran a paceline and averaged about 23 - 24 mph, but it is all pancake flat. I am sure that the group is a bit more diverse when more summer tourists are there. If you call the shop, they should be able to tell you what kinds of people will be on the rides.

If you need any more info, let me know.

hi all,

back from myrtle beach and our family vacation with 130 more miles under my belt. i did a couple of the bicycles-n-gear rides with the shop owner, richard, and had a great time. on one ride there was just 3 of us, another started with 7. nice routes up and down the coast through myrtle beach and it's northern suburbs. richard was quite friendly and great to talk to as well. i'd definitely recommend these rides to anyone living or visiting the area. riding around myrtle beach was pretty easy in the morning and early afternoon. most roads didn't get crowded until the later part of the afternoon and evening. either do a google search for bicycles-n-gear or grand strand cyclists in myrtle beach or look in their phone book under 'the sports corner' to find them.

have fun,
aaron

Cool, Aaron, thanks for posting. It sounds like a nice cycling outlet for vacationers since the rides are so reliable - every day!

Anything in the Surfside area? We are about 20 minutes South of the MB airport, and I'd love to get some riding in while I am there.

I rode with the shop owner this morning. Just the two of us. He said the turnout is usually better on Tuesdays and Thursdays. That's the days the local riders come out. I'll probably ride again in the morning. He's thinking of going out to Conway Wednesday to ride with a group. I may go on that one too. I don't imagine any of these would be much of a commute from Surfside. I drove down from North Myrtle area.

I've been posting everywhere I could think of to find ride info for our vacation next week. Glad to hear there are some options.
