I feel like such idiot. I am trying to change the stem, but I cannot get my Record levers off. I must be missing something really obvious. I took it by the bike shop by they're closed on Sundays. :(

First, my bars are the "anatomic" kind that has a sharp bend. I loosen all the way the 5mm nut that holds the shifter to the handlebar. It only goes as far as show in IMG_2230. When I slide my shifters down, the sharp bend in my handlebar causes the bolt circle in red in IMG_2237 to mash against my handlebar, so I can't remove it any further. I try to remove the bolt but I don't any hex wrench small enough to squeeze into the tight space.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Unscrew the fixing bolt located at the top of the body under the rubber hood all the way and the brifter body should come off the attaching band. Then you can slip the band off the bars without the body getting in the way.

DO NOT remove the bolt you have circled. The entire shifting mechanism is retained by it and you do not want to have it come apart.

Thanks HillRider. Works great. You saved me from almost accidentally un-assembling my shifters.

WOW, what a surprise he would have had if he took that bolt off. The good part is, he would've learned to rebuild an Ergo lever. :D
