Fifty Plus (50+) - Getting ready for my 7th decade

Big 60 tomorrow, say good bye to the 5x's. Posted couple weeks ago when I did an imperial century followed 4 days later by a metric. Gonna ride my age+ in the morning. Bike ready-check, clothes- check, food-check, water- check, chain greased- check, bottom buttR'ed -ahhh, check that in the morning. Gosh, I'm Pumped like I was when I was 10 :) :rolleyes: :D

I'll post after its over, route I picked has Hills along the Kentucky River - route follows both sides.

Around Shakertown and Nonesuch, per chance?

My wife and I went to Shakertown last weekend. She admired the lovely scenery, and I took notes of the brutal hills, especially on -- I think it's route 68 -- that descends down to the river and then climbs back up in a barfogenic ascension perhaps rivalling Les Alpes D'Huez.

If you're doing that kind of stuff, I'd ignore the calender. Youda Man!

1. Yes life on a bike IS grand.

2. 60 isn't old, it is just more mature and fine (think Château Lafite Rothschild 1947)

3. 60 is not the new 40. 40 is just a bunch of punk kids. 60 is the new 60, and proud of it.

Wow, a great ride and good friends. Life is indeed good.
Did 67.2 miles, 4 hrs 45 min, avg = 14.1 some BIG hills, traveled this route : http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1010023
Mile 27-29 was rough, as was last 20. But it was worth every pedal stroke.

link - I was about 20-30 miles down stream from Shakertown. Crossed Tyrone Bridge (wild turkey distillery) went west down to the river, small 1 lane road that turned into gravel for about 2 miles, then luckily blacktop going up-Up-UP into Lawrenceberg, then on to Frankfort. I crossed under the I64 Ky River bridge on both sides (near Jim Beam distillery storage warehouses, formerly old crow, Old taylor).

side note, You folks unfamilair with shakers, need to read material on them. Odd folks but extremely talented. A beautiful place to visit if in KY.

Turning 60 sure beats the alternative! :rolleyes: I turned 60 last September. I don't think that I have slowed down too much. I still do most of the things that I did in my 30's. And - more important - I can do some of the things that I couldn't afford to do twenty or thirty years ago because now I have a lot more time and a little bit more money. :D
