After sitting on a gel saddle, one not even sixed for me. I realized mow much more comfy my ride could be! The more I ride, the pickier I get... Anyone have a good experience with a Central NJ bike shop that has the tailbone measuring doohickey?

Neil, I don't know if they have a measuring do-hicky but give Halters Cycles (http://www.halterscycles.com/) a call. Jason, the owner, spent a couple of hours fitting me for my new bike. I broke my tail bone years ago so it's been uncomfortable riding for a long while. All I know, is the way everything is now positioned, I haven't had a bit of pain. He takes appointments for fittings. My husband didn't buy his bike there but has been having some numbness issues, so J is fitting him tomorrow.

Heard back from Jason, and his email was a little odd:

I know of the tool you speak of and I believe it to be the the biggest joke I have ever seen. This falls into the bells and whistles category.

If you need a new saddle the best possible solution is to come in and try some on your personal bike.

Perhaps you may consider a full fitting. In most cases the handlebar position can have a huge impact on saddle comfort.

Hmm. Good that he has a strong opinion on this, I suppose. As long as he fits it well, I really don't care how he does it. Now that my mileage is going up (100+ miles last week), a comfy saddle is of even more importance.

Neil spotted that my front rim is a little bent, I'll have him take a look while I'm there. Thanks!

Yeah, Jason is nothing if not opinionated but I find him a straight shooter. He gave Chris a fitting and discouraged him from getting a new seat until he saw how all the adjustments felt (why spend the extra money) but Chris had is heart set on a new seat....anyway, we did 54 yesterday and no numbness but some general achiness as he got used to the new positioning.

I remember someone saying that pretty much everyone falls into the middle category on the ass-o-meter, so it does seem like it might be a little bit gimmicky.
