Mountain - Plains - Weekend ride report

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I completed my first 400km Brevet!
Read all about it in the Long Distance Forum (http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=305375)!
on saturday i rode FC > loveland > longmont > lyons > estes (36) > devils gulch > drake > loveland > FC for 104.
i do FC > estes via 34 pretty regularly but this was my first time taking 36. 36 is a lot steeper and no shoulder. but nice variety of scenery. thinking of riding peak to peak in the next couple of weeks.
i gotta say, i dont spend a lot of time in hygene and longmont and boulder usually, i prefer the mountains to the flats, so all spring i've been riding i've been wondering where the hell everybody is... the roads have been suspicious void of bikes. so saturday i realized everyone is riding around the county roads between boulder & longmont every weekend. all these groupe rides full of people on expensive bikes wasting lightweight frames on pancake flat rides where it coldnt matter less.
come one people... we live in colrado, ride some hills fer gosh sake! yo have the bikes for it.
see you in the mountains

yeah, whatsupwiththat? Although, there sure are alot of people riding to Jamestown.
Maybe I'll see you on the P2P, going the other way, since I live in the people's republic.
I rode the Elephant Rock Century :o, which was surprisingly nice. Only did it b/c I just moved here & I don't have any riding buddies yet. I met another girl who is exactly the same speed as me, though!

There are plenty of hills west and north of broomfield. Some of us do not have the time to head up to the mountains very often. However, it sure is fun when I do get a chance.

Congratulations. That's really impressive. I just did my first century (Elephant Rock) and can't begin to fathom 2.5x that.

There were - and always are - tons of people climbing Lefthand Canyon, Jamestown Canyon, Olde Stage, and Lee Hill roads on Sunday. I often include Hygeine in my rides, so maybe some of the people you saw were on their way to the hills from somewhere else?

Can I retract this post, I hate what I wrote. I feel like a jerk. Sorry.

very possible. it certainly wasnt intended as a shot at anyone, i ride more out of fc than boulder, so all i know is i dont see nearly as many people riding up the big thompson or devils gultch or the st vrain or stove prairie or redfeather lake road or rist canyon or rattlesnake ridge as i did on sunday on the flats.
i mean whatever, we're all on bikes, it was just sort of a surprising observation.

I didn't take it as a shot. However, it did seem that a chunk of my posts yesterday were a bit on the cranky side. Ah well.

Hmm, i wonder if that's because we were all really tired from Sunday. Except bmclaughlin807, of course, it doesn't appear that he gets tired. (jealous)

I don't get that tired. It was more the fact that it was over and I was stuck at work again. I really must stop having fun on the weekend. :p
I was exhausted yesterday but I'm better today. Still no interest in getting on my bike though.:D

Your bike misses you. My goodness my commute seems short now.
I need you shifters first. Yeah, that's it!

I was beat yesterday as well but plan getting back on the horse (so to speak) and hitting Lookout Mtn tonight - barring evening T-storms.

Depends on if you're on your first trip of the day up, or your third. :p Certainly doesn't hold a candle to the main climb on my brevet Saturday. *shudders at the memory* Lefthand Canyon sucks! (Well, especially if you're already 90 miles into a ride!)

Didn't occur to me when I originally posted this, but if any of you are interested in doing LO Mtn tonight with me I'll be there around 5:30-5:45.

no, don't know Rist, but I think the reason so many people love Lookout is the consistent grade (~4-5%?) allows you to gauge your effort pretty well, no big variations, its only what 4-5 miles and 1.5k elevation or so? Because it really isn't the fastest way to anywhere, the traffic seems uniformly light. I just started riding it in the mornings (5:30am) and often there will be no cars, very peaceful, unless it starts to rain like a few days ago, then its just peaceful and cold and windy and sucky.
oh yah, 400k WOW, way to go Bri :)
