The bike is a trek 1500 w/ the stock Bontrager Select wheels. I have about 200 miles on the bike so far and it was just in for a checkup. I noticed that the front wheel would pop/click when it got to a certain spot if I was leaning over on the bike going slow. I told the guy there at the shop but I am not sure if he passed it on to the mechanic.
Anyway i was just in one bay of my garage and decided to see if i could tell what the noise was so i put a bit of weight on the front end while moving the bike in a circle and i hear the faint popping (twing) noise when i get to certain spots of the wheel. I kept doing it and noticed it was three or four times per revolution of the wheel.
I pulled the wheel off and put tension on the spokes about mid way pushing the spokes outward in opposite directions and I could hear the same noise on certain ones but it wasn't repeatable on the same ones that made noise.
Anyone have the same thing happen. I have read about some problems w/ the wheels but I don't want to upgrade yet.
No cracks in the spoke area. The spoke tightness feel very similar to other pairs but I haven't had a bike in 20 plus years to know exactly how tight they should be. The wheels don't look to be out of true.
p.s. I weigh about 210 lbs.
