The bike is a trek 1500 w/ the stock Bontrager Select wheels. I have about 200 miles on the bike so far and it was just in for a checkup. I noticed that the front wheel would pop/click when it got to a certain spot if I was leaning over on the bike going slow. I told the guy there at the shop but I am not sure if he passed it on to the mechanic.
Anyway i was just in one bay of my garage and decided to see if i could tell what the noise was so i put a bit of weight on the front end while moving the bike in a circle and i hear the faint popping (twing) noise when i get to certain spots of the wheel. I kept doing it and noticed it was three or four times per revolution of the wheel.
I pulled the wheel off and put tension on the spokes about mid way pushing the spokes outward in opposite directions and I could hear the same noise on certain ones but it wasn't repeatable on the same ones that made noise.
Anyone have the same thing happen. I have read about some problems w/ the wheels but I don't want to upgrade yet.
No cracks in the spoke area. The spoke tightness feel very similar to other pairs but I haven't had a bike in 20 plus years to know exactly how tight they should be. The wheels don't look to be out of true.

p.s. I weigh about 210 lbs.

Don't ask me, when I put the Ford in 3rd and let off the gas, it sound like my phone is ringing.

I had a clicking spoke once, I couldn't even hear it, my little brother kept complaining till I fixed it.

...and it was just in for a checkup...
Key words there.

Sounds to me like they trued your wheels as part of the checkup tune and the spokes are still settling back in.

Pinging is usually a sign of loose spokes. If you think yours are not loose then try one drop of oil on the nipples.

I just had the same exact problem on my 07 Lemond Zurich w/ Bontrager Race wheels. On mine, it would only make the clicking noise when I was standing. It did this the first day I got it. I gave it a few hundred miles, lubed nipples, etc, and it wouldn't go away. The mechanics tried everything with that wheel, swapping out all the guts in the hub, checking spoke tension, etc, to no avail. In the end, the wheel was replaced under warranty with no problems, and the new wheel is silent. Bontrager may have had a few hubs slip out with some type of defect, I would ask for a replacement wheel if they can't figure out the problem. I don't know how old the bike is, Bontrager has a 2 year warranty on their parts.
PS The service at Trek Bicycle Store of Estero FL is totally awesome!

Well I took it by the shop and he put a little more tension in the spokes. I did hear it once after I got back home but it was no way near the same as before. Does putting a drop of oil on the spoke nipple help?
