Folding Bikes - What do with with case for S&S coupled bike?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

When you travel with a bike equipped with S&S couplers, what do you do with the case after you arrive at your starting point? For trips that don't start and end at the same point, this seems to be a significant logistical issue. Do you carry the case with you (perhaps possible with the collapsable backpack case)? Do you ship to your destination? Something else creative I haven't thought of?

I post the softcase to my destination when I am travelling 'open jaw'. Hardcases are always too much of a pain for me but other people are more paranoid about damage.

LWaB, could you give some more info? Like where do you post it to, what is your case like, what bike do you use etc.

I'll post the S&S softcase (have a look on the S&S website) to the hotel I'll be staying at before heading home (hotel is prebooked of course). The soft case is rolled and taped into the smallest possible package, to reduce postage/courier costs. The bike is a custom Frezoni purchased for the 1999 PBP.

I mount my S&S hard case on a Bob's trailer frame. This requires drilling four holes in the case, which I plug with grommets in transito. It also means I travel with an S&S soft case, in which I put the trailer frame and other stuff. Touring on a full-sized bike means hitting the checked baggage limit.
