View Full Version : Tandems on city busses

I live in a part of the country that has a lot of water. The bridge I use to get home is 5 miles long and has no bike lane (65 mph freeway). I therefore have to take a city bus to get many places - at least just across the bridge - we often ride to and from the bus stops at either end of the bridge. The busses here are all well equipped with bike racks on the front. They're the kind of racks that pull down. You drop your bike in and then engage the spring lock over the front tire

I'm considering getting a tandem. Has anyone dealt with whether or not traditional tandems fit on these city bus racks in any way? Currently my 6 year old and I put my bike on the rack, detach and fold up his trail-a-bike and carry it onto the bus - sometimes to the chagrin of the driver.

Thanks,
Nika

I doubt you'll be able to fit a tandem on those racks. They'll be to short for a tandem.

There is not one bus here in the Denver area that can handle a tandem.
