I hate to have to do it, but after reading about the BFNIC century ride on Sunday, well, I have to look deep, deep inside myself and come to grips with the ugly truth.

Emotionally, I won't be able to handle being shown up on my own ride by a bunch of FIBS.
I'm just not that strong a person.

Now I know, it takes a big man to admit when he's beaten...to admit his flaws, his weak points. So perhaps that's all I have left to do now.

No, after reading that thread this morning it's clear, the BFNIC group is way over my head in numerous ways, not just performance on the road. Clearly, that portion is true. But perhaps they're even bigger in the heart department. It's now obvious to me now that they were simply being kind when they rode with me on my century in Wisconsin last August. Of course, that's what CyLowe97 is known for...looking out for his fellow rider. Psimet helping me when my Campy wheel broke apart. Kenal0 frightening me with that scary skeleton jersey just enough to keep me going in the end.

Now I read about a 5:13 century from aham?
Sweet Mother of Jesus man!

Then just rub my nose in it with the pictures of everyone looking so good to boot?!

No, I'm not worthy, and I won't let my pride be stomped on in my own back yard.
Maybe if I start to do more miles and train harder by next summer I'll be able to hang with the BFNIC crowd.

Before we started and at every rest stop, there was a discussion about the pace. I have been on enough of these rides to know the pace will be blistering. These guys just ride fast. Luckily everyone takes a nice 10 minutes at each rest stop so if the group is riding at 20 mph, that equates to 1 hour for a 20 mile leg. I do it at 17.5 mph which equates to 68.5 minutes which gives me a 1.5 minute rest. Plenty of time to grab a cookie and banana and get back on my bike.:)
Actually of the 62 miles, I rode maybe 3 by myself and the rest was with someone from the group so it was still better than doing some of those long rides solo. I also rode the first 17 miles at a decent pace so it is good to push myself a little.

You could always put a speed penalty in place at the hip classic or handicap by adjusting the faster guys air pressure. Make them ride with 30 psi in the tires.

I guess we'll just have to kidnap you, tie you up, and stuff you in a burley trailer for the ride then. You're riding your ride whether you want to or not.

Some other options:

Full supension mountain bikes with 2.5" knobbies
50 lb beach cruisers
Fixies with low gearing
Unicycles

...hmmmmm, we may be on to something here.

Now me, I get to ride my road bike though, right?

RULE 1.
Aham must be on a fat-tire, fixed-gear bike with 30 psi in those tires.

RULE 2.
CyLowe has to wear one of those fake pregnancy fat suits on the ride.

RULE 3.
Dave 342 must pull for me the entire ride (which will only be 30 miles by the way)

RULE 4.
Kenal0 must ride his folding bike.....folded up.

RULE 5.
...I'm working on it....and there will be disclaimers for you all to sign at pre-ride registration.

You got all wrong, it is that Wisconsin Dream Team you are assembling that is bringing the heat.
We only ride socially down here in Illinois, you guys are an organized racing machine.

Kenal...the #'s don't lie.

....and where is aham on all this?
What have you done to him?

Is he even real?
I've never met him.

Could it be he is some robotic beast of man that you have created to intimidate and destroy the morale of all those who do not take part in BFNIC?

He's obviously a cardboard cutout meant for promotional purposes only.

Brilliant marketing move CyLowe, brilliant.
They bring their own cardboard cutout along to pose.

What marketing director wouldn't love him?

Don't you have things called "hills" up there? That should slow us down :o !

RULE 5.

You could make us ride on "wheels of cheese"

i am real. i am not speedymcawesome, but aspire to be. work kept me busy today. yes Psimet i said work.

Hip, just get Jerry on the phone and get a training plan decided on and get to work!! :D

i only had 750 miles under my belt when we blasted off at the Udder. the rest stops were a bit long and i could have done without the first, so dont let that fool you! i think we can, and will, ride faster. however, by august i should be into full marathon training mode and have totally lost my cycling form/legs. what i am saying is, you have a chance man! :D  :o :D

what is great about the BFNIC is the quick evolution of the group. last year the udder was a fast century for us with a finishing time of 5:50 or so. membership has grown since that time. the animal that is shider is one of the main driving forces of the speed. inputflangeman is some type of sophisticated cycling robot sent back in time to destroy all centuries. cyclpsycho is clearlying an experienced "A" group rider. nvr is the silent assassin who always remembers his camera. signall11 is one of the original horses who can ride off the front of any group. Psi and Cy are originals. they play humble then lead out the group for 8 miles at 23 mph or fly by you on a 14% bull valley "roller."

me, i am just a guy in his second year of cycling with less then 4000 miles on my lifetime odometer. really, i am just along for the ride.

Hip, i think i will keep that weekend open.

later.

I'm so real that The Awesome just takes over.

Perhaps I will think of attending this so-called HIP Festival of the Bike to give you the opportunity to witness my Awesome Speediness.

Keep on aspiring!

Excellent!
I'm looking forward to not only racing in my little pretend crit, but watching and taking video of you guys racing as well.

I'll make a disc of it and show it at the Festival of the Bike party....oh...IF there is one.

However, speedymcawesome's post has given me hope now....his/her writing reminds me of the old 53-11 days here!

Hurts?

Not in the big picture.

It's great for ratings...pitting the two friends together on opposite teams.
Think of the pre-event drama in all those made-for-TV feature stories that will be done about this!

Team IS finished....too big to continue.

C'mon now. It's a simple boilerplate contract rider that states I am willing to pour my heart, soul, and cycling guts into race with Cheeseheads, but that I will not have to wear any combination of Green and Yellow.

Oh, and that all the green and yellow M&M's are removed from my allotted pre-race meal by the team chefs.

Wow that was a low blow. That man is seriously hurting, trying to change his life around and you kick him and call him a chump. I would not expect that from Hipster.
I guess we can see which way this race is going to go down!

DONE.
Now can we just sign the deal?

As for "TANK"....my producer is a huge Bears fan....he lives in Kenosha, which may explain a few things about the boy, and I was into it with him on this yesterday before the show.

Lets see now....
Team sponsor for you....
Northern Illinois....

Seriously.

He could have made the choice to bring some Awesome into his game, but then probably thought it wiser not to show up the Hipcycler Team on their home course.
