I am having poor performance out of my brakes. I converted my bridgestone from 27" wheels to 700 and am using the stock long reach diacompe brakeset with new pads. Should I try finding dual pivot long reach brakes & new levers? I would like them to stop as well as my lemond with 105 dual pivot brakes. Any suggestions I need help bad, it feels like I dont have any braking power at all!

Softer compound pads might help your braking power increase but they will wear out a little faster than standard pads. Shimano makes some dual pivot brakes with a long reach, seems like they are called R440 or something to that effect. Dual pivots will certainly offer more power but the pads are a cheaper route.

i posted a while back about my brake problems too..
Replaced the housing because of the spongy feel..
The pad needs to break in a little, so as the rim..
After sometime, about 50-80kms, the brakes on mine performed relatively better..
I had to modify the pads a lot.. i used a file to correct the angles..
