Bicycle Mechanics - old school shimano 600 star headset

anyone know where one can find the wrenches that were made to adjust the Shimano 600 headset from the 80's that was shaped like a star instead of having normal wrench flats?

I use a standard 32mm headset wrench on the adjustable race and either another 32mm or an adjustable crescent wrench on the star nut. Just have to exercise a little care and it works.

Yeah, you can find them...but you really have to look hard. If you have a really good LBS that has been around for a long time...and it's not 100% completely staffed by kids...they may have some. vpiuva is right, you can nurse it with a 32mm headset wrench. But if your planning on keeping it for a while longer, I'd get those ones from ciuccio. Those were good headsets!

I had the same problem with old Dura Ace pedals, I took a cheap ring spanner thinned it down and ground out every other lobe.

I have them. I don't need them. Let me know.


Thanks for the offer, but actually the problem has been taken care of for now. After further investigation I figured out that the reason I could not properly tighten it was the headset had been completely abused and worn out by the previous owner. Now with a new headset I hope to be in the clear.
