Southern California - how fast is velo-retros rosebowl ride?

Hey kids.

I'm new to cycling (ok, well, re-entering cycling I suppose, I used to do rides when I was a kid) and was considering showing up at the velo-retro ride, which according to their site is a "casual-paced 25 miles long" ride, but according to some people I've heard, their definition of "causal" is a 25+mph average, which I guess if you're a low cat rider, might be casual, but it's nothing I'd be able to maintain, and I don't especially feel like getting dropped without making it at least a few miles first.

Anyone attend this? suggestions for what pace I should be able to maintain before bothering to show up?

Also, they're friendly to mutt bikes of unknown vintage right? (like my ebay frankenbike with downtube friction shifters, which to me seems probably more "old" than "vintage" but...)

Thanks.

It's a slow casual, social ride with several stops. No one gets dropped. Realistic average speed: way under 15 mph. You'll enjoy it.. :)

Actually, this ride the OP was talking about is a monthly vintage ride.....not the Tue/Thurs pack ride you're familiar with....:D

You should post the short video of the RB Pack ride, so we can see the insanity for ourselves.

george, it that video posted somewhere? i tried to wave to you as we went by but someone behind me thought that i had a flat (because i had my hand up) and was trying to get out of the group.

spin- video won't do any good you have to come down and experience it from the middle of the pack with 150 others at 30+ mph. i've got a spot on the back of the tandem...

I think my confusion has been aleviated by the discussion here. I had read that it was casual, and then was hearing from people about this nutter fast ride, which I think was actually the tue/thurs ride. I hope. I think my friend and I were just talking about different rides. =)
