Winter Cycling - Fat studded tires + fenders?

Well, so last winter I decided to put fenders on my icebike. Problem is, first ride out the tires (aggressive 2.25 mud tires with lots of 1/2 inch screws in 'em) kinda grabbed the fenders on good bumps and such, bending them into themselves in an impossible way. At least the first few times, but within less then a km the rear fender just ripped off. So much for that...

For this year I'm thinking about getting better studded tires, but staying very similar to the last iteration I had made, that would be something like Schwalbe Ice spikers, Nokian Extreme or maybe Hakka. This combined with wider rims, I was eyeballing Alex DX32's. But I'd also like a set of freddy fenders or equivalent, and of course the combination just has to work well together, ripping off the fenders is too inconvenient... So, has someone tried this or a similar variation with success?

I ran Continental Spike Claw 240s this winter season and loved them! They were priced at $58 CDN per tire and come with carbide tipped studs. The rubber and tread pattern also seemed non clogging, and presented no problems of packing while using my Freddy Fender Hard Cores.

I ran Continental Spike Claw 240s this winter season and loved them! They were priced at $58 CDN per tire and come with carbide tipped studs. The rubber and tread pattern also seemed non clogging, and presented no problems of packing while using my Freddy Fender Hard Cores.

NICE TIRES!!! Was going to try some studs on my mtb that I was going to designate as my 100% commuter and winter play bike this year and am purchasing a lighter mtb to have more fun on the trails with versus my tank. But the bike was stolen last week by some #$%^& 16-18 yr olds - pushed a friend of mine (watching the bike) down and snagged it. Won't see that one again. :(

I have used Nokian Mount & Ground 26x1.9 tires for the past 7 winters with various fenders and had no issues. Perhaps you just need smaller tires? The M&G's are a nice compromise between being relatively fast on hard pavement and having enough tread to dig through a couple inches of snow.

On a similar subject I am building up a snowbike... off-road winter bike for riding on trails and lakes and so forth. Does anyone have any experience with those moto-inspired T.H.E. fenders or other similar models from other brands? I'll be putting them on a rigid fork in front and there's very little room to spare in back.
