Foo - I prefer negros, how about you?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
My favorite bean of all is the frijole negros (black bean). Oh, sure the Pinto is the meaty bean of the legume world, but I think the black bean has the most taste AND it is rich in iron.
Some folks love green peas - me too!
I went to our local grocery store and was able to buy 21 different kinds of dried beans (including peas, of course). Fabulous. I love beans. If I was to be stranded on an island and had to pick one food, it would be beans.
So, what is your favorite bean and why?
Now is your chance to let your voice be heard

+1 for Edamame!! (and just to let you know, Mung bean is the typical bean sprouts you see in Asian dishes)

Look, just because you get the farts something awful doesn't mean you have to cause such a stink.
Black beans, as they are or refried. Delish.
Blackeyed Peas (Best ever, a slab of fatback and some stewed tomatoes = heaven. And if there is a pot of turnip greens next to it and some vinegar on the table, the world is perfect. Cornbread is a given)

Lentil beans combined with garlic, oil, spinach, pepper, and pasta creates a wonderful soup with outstanding nutritional qualities.
For my fellow bean loving friends, have a look at the thread I posted about how to make bean burgers. It is really neat. http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=305747
All you need is dry beans, flavoring, and frying oil. Check it out!

Ya, man, I am with you on that one. I like black-eyed peas with collard greens. The bitter of the greens seems just right with those sandy black-eyed peas. I can't explain it, but I love it. Yes, I like the vinegar touch too. Good suggestion.
Hey, how do you prepare your azuki beans? Sweat like the Japanese do it?

Great one. Now, add some lima beans, leave the soup out of it and you have a hearty dish that will have your kids coming home for supper.

Does any one like to get some crackers, beat them to a pulp, cut them up into little pieces - and then add them to a boiling pot of vegetable soup? hmmmm yum.. I like to add some fava beans and rinse it down with a generous glass of chianti. . hf-hf-hf-hf-hf-hf-hf-hfff. :)

Big 'ol plump lima beans. Usually there's a relationship between size and taste in the vegetable world, and that is smaller=tastier. Not so with lima beans IMHO. How sublime.

I usually make my azuki beans sweet; I like Japanese cooking and will stick with a theme throughout the meal.
I've also used them as a substitute for lintels.

Black eye beans!
My family always makes them alot and me and my dad had come up with a weird but TASTY combo of the black-eye beans, cornbread, and mayo. get a slice of cornbread, dump a ladle of beans on top of it and then mix them up with some mayo. I like it with A LOT of mayos but everybody may have a different preferred ratios between the cornbread, beans, and mayo that they perfer. My dad perfer more cornbread than I do.
I warn you though, I've tried it with some different beans and it never really tasted right for me so if you are going to experiment, be prepared to be dissapointed!

Gandules are pigeon peas. As for favorite bean, it'd have to be peanuts roasted w/ garlic and salted.
I'm partial to some red beans and rice. If you throw in some diced up Cajun sausage and some cayenne peppers you ain't gonna hurt my feelins none either.
Ya'll come! Dinners on the table!

Sorry, when I was setting up the poll, I thought 12 choices should be enough, but when I hit the last one, I knew I was leaving a bunch out. The good news is that folks get to mention their favorites in their posts. I am with you, though. Yes, what about the Great Northern, adzuki, and other great beans!

Black Eyed Beans (peas) make a great sandwich spready, by the way. Boil them until soft, strain, and mash like potatoes. You can add butter or bacon grease, salt and pepper to taste.
Put on bread with butter, mayo, or mustard. It's good.
Remember to soak the beans for two or three days to enhance the protein and reduce the carbohydrates and you will have an even more healthy food.
Kidney beans. Great in salads and chili.
Mexican refried beans!! Whatever that is. Pinto I believe. Man, that with mexican rice is awesome.

Negros ..
Is that what you people call black beans?
I wonder if I should be offended. Strangely, I'm not. Just curious ..

I know next to nothing about spanish(?) as I didn't grow up in these united states. was just curious. I have since learned that "negro" is an archaic word. No, maybe not offensive, but when you start an "I Prefer Negros, What About You," thread, to say it's not tongue-in-cheek _________ (insert your adjective of choice), maybe is a bit condescending ..
I mean come on, man, this if Foo, after all :)
I like my beans too. I actually bought some black bean tortilla chips last night ..
I think I'll make an "I Prefer Negros" T-Shirt, get my "non-negros" friends to wear then I'll just tell them to utter "It's the beans, man. It's the beans," right before they are pummeled.
I'm just saying .. this if Foo, most things are twisted. Why should this all of a sudden be an exception.
:-)
I have gas from the chips, anyway ..
I loooveees some black beans in burritos and on tacos. great with rice.

In context, I mean. Not trying to argue semantics. Thanks for the link though. I am a Negro, for example. It isn't far-fetched to see why "I Prefer Negros" would have caught my eyes. Not offended or anything .. lest I be called thin-skinned or soft or wussy
But like I said, I like beans. Negros too, especially Cubans.

OK, man, look. Even if negros was a tongue-in-cheek reference to black people, since when did negro become an unspeakable word? I heard Martin Luther King refer to blacks as negroes over and over and nobody took offense and nobody should take offense because it isn't meant to be offensive and it is not offensive.
Lighten up and don't put so much effort into trying to be offended.

How about jumping beans?
They've gotta have more protein than the average legume...
Ohh, and to all those offended by this thread, at least the OP didn't say he preferred beaners.
