Southern California - Back to Baldy Ride - Saturday, June 16th

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
... and last time, I came from San Jose
Wow! That's a good 4.5 hours' drive!

Am I too new to show up to this?
I work nights, but not Friday nights and sometimes wake up early on Saturdays. If I wake up early, there may be an inclination to join y'all.
Not too new at all. I welcome you and if you haven't been up that mountain (and you like to climb which I suspect you do), you'll love it. Come out and play...:D

damn nice try, but I still can't make it.
:( Understandable, certainly, but...:(
See you all in the morning. :) This should be a GREAT ride! :D

leave him alone. he can't handle baldy. this is his way out..
Actually, he CAN handle Baldy. He's a strong rider, that pup, if not a little pushy (but so am I in my own way). I'd like for him, and his off-the-wall sense of humor, TO join, personally. :D

Thanks for the donut offer, Bill, but I'm having a huge breakfast in the morning. :)
....but like the last time, I always have extra room in my stomach...:D
Bill, if you bring donuts, I'll probably have one.

your way back from the lift looks completly with no hills/rollers?!
I maped the route in my site Microsoft Virtual Map (http://shprung.com/sfvbc/?ride=BF01)| Google Maps (http://shprung.com/sfvbc/G/?ride=BF01) and with the ski lift we probably going to get close to 10,000 ft (my site over calculate because it add up almost each and every roller)
about 72 miles.
I go down Baldy through Claremont and Pomona and Diamond Bar, Brea, Yorba Linda and finally Anaheim. The little blip on the end is 500 feet through Anaheim Hills, did it to get over 10,000 feet that day:)

Ovo! Go! it's a fantastic ride, you could handle it w/o problem, and eventually GMR will be open cars. I'm not going cause there's a girl visiting. And honestly, if she was arriving 30min later, I'd go and risk being a little late to get her.
I would go if I had my bike already packed in my car but I dont. Sorry maybe next time. I'd have to take the wheels off and the whole shibang.
If you see my friend in red, wave to him...I heard he's sexy.

Ovo, you're kidding right? What's it take, 3 minutes to load your bike?
Ugh, I should have been asleep an hour ago!

I must be part vampire anymore. I jumped on my bike nineish just for a quick spin and just got back. The cool air is nice tonight. I do wish to participate in the big climbing rides and will stay tuned for them, but will have to skip tomorrow's ride. I haven't been up on Glendora Ridge since the late 70's and could really use a refresher look around. Have fun and be safe.
Can't sleep. Hopefully I'll feel tired again soon.

Weather up here in San Jose is cooler today. If it is the same down there, it should be a great day again for this ride. ME must have some special connection with mother nature ... or is she mother nature? Ride safe everyone.
Why do I do this to myself? I'm up way too early for having not slept well. And I really ought to get going in about 2-5 minutes. (Even so, I'll probably be a bit late for the 7:30 meet time.)

socal when I told you put the riddelin down in the other thread I didn't think it would cause insomnia. GO SEE DrPete so he can fix you. It's not normal.
Actually I was riding with this guy last week and his bike said, "Socalcycling.com". I wondered if it was you but then thought otherwise, he was in his 40's or 50's. Nice guy...couldn't have been you.

I'm glad I'm able to take care of business while I'm still home instead of having to do it at the park.

If you want pics, bring your bike and eyeballs. I'm not posting any pics or talking to you...and well, sex is out of the question.

Although the club ride might have less miles, it has plenty of hammering to compensate and usually I can reach max heart rate keeping up with the front few guys. The only problem is that they drop me on the really long climbs, even if I give maximum effort. So although its much less climbing, there is plenty of pain attached.
But I gotta see where they're going today, my adobe reader is messed up :(
You'll post pics, not like I can't see the thread you'll make later today :D

I'm riding with a mod who adores me. I may try and sweet talk him into banning you from my report thread. Yes, I AM that evil. :D

That was a very unfortunate set of circumstances, Ovo. I hope your wounds aren't too deep. And I'm feeling guilty for trying to talk you into riding today! If it's any consolation, you are getting strong...

not your fault man and not the other riders either. The motorcyclist should have seen us because we just passed them 10 seconds ago(not like they didn't expect us there), no excuse for flying by 60+mph on the side of us and we were mostly to the right of the road. I had no where to go either, there was a rider on the right of me and infront, and it happened so fast... Seriously, I'm happier knowing that he didn't get hit by the motorcycle because he would have been killed for sure( 60+mph and in the back), just sucks that I went down in the process.
Sh*t happens. I don't feel any pain right now but that might change, the bike is pretty good other than the little clip thing on the saddle which I'll fix with some super glue. I took 99.99% of the damage lol.

Yea, I was back a ways... I knew those motorcycles were up to no good after they let us pass them. I think they were pissed that we weren't single file the first time they passed. No excuse for that ridiculous, obnoxious, and near criminal behavior. I just have zero time for that testosterone crowd.

Ovo, I've posted this a few times already, but after my fall, I am convinced of 2 things:
1) For surface road rash, not too deep, Tegaderm is excellent.
2) For deeper road rash and gouges, this product is flat-out MIRACULOUS:

I used to have a really compact first aid pouch that Lynn got me as a xmas stocking stuffer. However, it took too much space in my saddle bag, so I took it out. After reading this thread, I might need to look for it again, or buy a new one. It's scary out there.

Great ride although a little odd for me today. I did not make the lifts and instead "Mother Mary'd" Ovoleg back to Encanto Park. I was worried about him and wanted to ensure that he got back safe. I'm not liking the "incidences" occurring on that ride and I think a "safety" discussion is in order, but not at present. I have pics of Ovo, post-crash, as well as pics from the ride, but like last week, I left my power cord at work. Well, I have to go in tomorrow earlier than expected, so I'll upload them tomorrow.
