Mountain Biking - Gonna start doing jumps this weekend

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So, I feel pretty confident in myself now to do some jumps. Nothing major, just a little dirt. I think my seat is too high though, which wont be too good for the landing. Its about even with the height of the top of my stem.

Any suggestions on a beggining jumper?

Are you riding clipless or flats. If your on flats its a bit harder to get accustomed to since the bikes not attached to you feet. Assuming you ride flats try to cup your feet around the pedals so they stick. When you launch off the lip, pull up a bit on the handlebars and while keeping pressure with your feet on the pedals, make an upward circular movement to lift the rear end of the bike. Its hard to explain, but thats advice from Hans Rey.

You should find one jump your comfortable with but one that you can get some air off of and do it over and over and over and over. Keep doing it until you feel like you can manipulate the bike good enough to move up.

Flats.

To level out my rear after the whole bike is airborne, just push forward a bit on the h-bars yeah?

Ummm what are h-bars...and sort of...you also want to lift with your feet to get as much air as possible.

h-bars = handlebar(s)

you are only going to push down on the h-bars a once or twice...then you will have learned your endo lesson.

Don't do a thing. Hit the jump with speed and keep your body centred. Your front wheel should dip naturally and if the jump is designed right you will land it...
