Great to see the NYPD keeping those criminals at bay. Surely this will further increase continually improving community relations between fellow citizens and themselves.
Edit: Found video of the incident, including arrest, here: http://blip.tv/file/252942?filename=Timesup-200705306th_Street_Bike_Raid338.flv

We should all get folding bikes because the NYPD decides to do a commando raid on bikes???
I never lock mine up - I take it in with me. When I want to go on a real ride I'll take my roadie.
The NYPD is absolutely wrong - I'm not saying they aren't.

I was there. It was really friggin' bizarre. I didn't realize that they had just given bikes to anyone who happened to be standing around... I saw one girl's frame just get trashed with an angle grinder, she didn't even know there was a problem until I saw her outside the restaurant it turned out we were both inside of eating at the time. I had taken the train to dinner, but her vintage ride was gone, and IIRC it was taken off in a number of ugly pieces.
what brought this on? did the cops tell the cyclists to "go home" or something? was there a c/m event just prior to the events? i am looking for the entire story, hard to believe a police officer, who is to serve and protect, would be such an a-hole!
clarity please!

Residents complained about the number of bikes that were "abandoned". So the cops supposedly warned the residents, then showed up and started removing bikes. Those who complained were arrested for obstruction of police business, and after 22 hours in booking, were released.
That's the jist of it
