Hey Gang.
I will be visiting Irvine and surrounding area this weekend to look at different apartments, oodles of fun . Anyway I am thinking of brining my road bike. Anyone want to do a three hour ride, zone1/2, on early Sunday Morning (need to be back in my hotel room by 9:30 am), and show me around the area?
I'll be staying in Santa Ana.

Thanks.

There is the LA Wheelman Trainer ride, but it might be longer than you have time for ... check it out ... http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=303187

What's a "Zone1/2?
Is that an area, or a heart rate??

I'm game for a road ride in Irvine sunday, but back by 9:30??
Heck, I don't like to leave until 9!

That sounds like a very good possibility!
Depending on how much I do on the Saturday Mtb ride, a good Sunday road ride
would be great. What distance?? I would figure around 3 hrs?

See, I have most of the weekdend free to do as I please!!

Doesn't look like anyone want to wake up that early. Can't blame you, I don't usually wake up until 12pm on weekends. :)
I will be staying here: link (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=2620+Hotel+Terrace+Dr.+,+Santa+Ana,+CA,+US,+92705&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=50.37814,82.265625&ie=UTF8&z=17&iwloc=addr&om=1)
Can anyone recommend a good route from there? Loops are ok, just don't want to spent a lot of time seating at traffic lights.

Thanks.

I can tell you one thing...don't go riding around the neighborhood to the west of you at night or for that matter, even in the daytime.

I pass where you're staying every day. If can drive for a couple of miles, you can get to the SART by heading west on Dyer until you hit the trail, of course, that's if you want to ride a flat TT.:D

You're about three miles from my place.

Routeslip must be broken, that is about 2500 foot of gain (maybe)

Even if it is, you know you can do it. You were whipping us all going up OLH and Tunitas anyways. Piece o cake for you.

Well I did the ride. It was tons of fun. Thanks for the route Extort. My plan waking up at 5 and leaving around 6 didn't work out. Driving 6 hours the day before then driving the rest of the day looking at apartments really took a lot out of me. I did wake up around 5, but realized if I get on a bike I would probably keel over somewhere. So I re-set alarm for 7:30, and after having a quick breakfast I left around 8. Streets were almost empty so didn't get stuck behind too many red lights, coming back was another story thought. Although none of the left turning lights triggered for my bike. :(
On the first hill I realized that my FD is messed up. It just wouldn't downshift, or more accurately would shift sometimes after shifting back and forth few times. Something happened to it during transportation, or something. So I ended up doing most of the hills in a big ring. Wasn't all that bad, since after initial short climb everything else was just short rollers. Said hi to few people I passed, and talked to someone on one of the climbs. People in SoCal seem very friendly. :) Took me about 2:30 to do the ride. It was a change to usual rides around here that either include 40+min of climbing, or going up or down some slight incline.

good luck w/that! I broke my arm last year and it didn't set just right and now it looks really wierd from some angles

I had to wait til the cast was off to ride and even then I had to wear a brace for a while because the muscle was just GONE.... so I rode my old mtn bike around and used the end of the cast to push the shifter... it was pretty funny looking, I'm sure!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that its healing quickly and properly! In the meantime, I'm glad it isn't keeping you off the bike (although, it does look a little awkward! :p :p )

Can you imagine what he would have been like if he didn't have a cast? He'd be blazing such a trail, there would be sparks flying as he flew past us!
