Hello all! I'm on my bike again after not riding since college days (I achieved the age of 50 this year). My other activity passion is racquetball. I ride a beautiful metallic blue Bridgestone MB4. Did my first tries at BART/bike commuting last month when my car was in the repair shop. All went well except for the challenge of carrying the bike up and down stairs in the station. Today I am shopping for a wireless cyclocomputer so I can challenge myself re speed and distance. So far, although still a bit skittery when riding in traffic, I am very much enjoying myself.

My goals are to lose more weight and gain more muscle. I am in the best shape of my life, which is pretty darned exciting for this former non-exerciser. I don't think I ever thought I'd be an active or a sporty gal but here I am. Woo hoo!

Welcome to BikeForums, and congratulations on starting to bike and exercise.

I go to school in Berkeley, and I've noticed that the BART stations over here have little tracks on the edge of the stairs (presumably) to roll bicycles up and down them, although I've never used them.

:)

Thanks, I'll look for that on the stairs next time. I was carrying it and waited until there was no one around so I wouldn't hurt anyone else if I dropped it, etc. I'm a shorty (5'1") and lifting the bike very high isn't something I want to do. Someone should invent a strap that allows one to carry the bike messenger bag style. Can you picture that? :D

You are an inch taller than I am, and I still wouldn't want to sling my bike over my back for a haul up and down any stairs!

What year is your Bridgestone? There's an ongoing thread in Classic & Vintage for vintage mountain bikes--it sounds as if yours could possibly belong over there with the rest of the beauties.

Welcome to BF!

Hi East Hill,

My Bridgestone was one of the last to be built in the US before they closed the San Leandro office. I think it was late-80s? I had friends who worked there and my bike was built for me with the promise that I wouldn't sell it when I needed money. :) And I kept that promise after all these years.

Good for you! That definitely makes it a special bike, doesn't it?

However, if you ever do sell it, just remember that yours truly is very small...:D .

You're cracking me up! I love this bike because it is one of very few at the time that was small enough for my stubby legs. No backache or shoulder pain from having to reach too far, etc. The Goldilocks Bike: it's juuuuuust right.

I wasn't serious about 'steeling' it away from you, but I was quite serious about seeing photos on our thread in Classic & Vintage:
