Did anyone did this century; its on Saturday, July 7, 2007
From active.com info (http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1432671)I can see:
"The Century route is rated at Extremely Difficult, The Metric is rated Difficult to Moderate, and the Half Metric is rated Moderate to Easy under the BRDAA rating system."
It repeat the same 'extreme' in the official site (http://venturavelo.org/_wsn/page3.html), but from the ride description I don't get it?

That rating system automatically rates a 100 mile ride as extremely difficult. I can see the point, but when this ride would get rated the same as the mulholland challenge, it does seem a bit wrong.

102 miles and 4000 feet of climbing ... that's extremely difficult???

To the average rider, perhaps. I think that club is more recreational riders than hardcore double riders. Regardless of what the rating system is, if you find that too easy, don't do it. :p :D

Was this the one you were going to do when you return from Tennessee? Would make for a fun social ride.

might be fun as long as they dont use the same roads from their mardi gras ride!

You don't get any chicken until it's over. That means you'll be hammering which means I'll be hammering to keep up with you. Any lard that hits me over the week before will melt away. That's my strategy anyway. :D

Anyone sign for this one, or thinking about it? Anything better to do on July 7th? (June, this month is GT; Aug is cool breeze, but July... I thought to try this one)

Will the ladies all be there? ME, Asia, Sonja? Me too! :D
I did this century ride last year. Other than the start taking you South first it is reminiscent of the Cool Breeze Century route IMO. The ride gets its name because you ride into/pass-by three harbors: Channel Islands-Ventura Harbor-Santa Barbara Harbor. No mass start. I started about 30 minutes after opening and it was just I and one other rider. Heat played a part last year in climbing around Lake Casitas. I remember now heat was a problem for most of the inland route. Rest stops are okay. Food at the end is okay. Route slip was good and the route was well marked.
The Century is not that difficult for anyone who rides 100 mile rides.

I will be doing this ride too as it is local for me!!!
Karen :)
I did the metric (2 harbor) last year..started an hr after Mark...by the time we hit the beach bike path...it was so crowded it was terrible and dangerous.....got a bit better on the path to Ojai...
Very hot by Lake Casitas....
Then back thru downtown ventura..ugh..
rest stops were fair...nothing special
Food at the end was ok....
I am not sure I am willing to pay $60 for this....
I may just renegade the metric this year...I am self sufficient for food, and there are places to get water...

Are you doing any of the other rides? Like the one in Northern California - The Giro de Peninsula? let me know if you need a ride - I will be passing through. :p Anyone else for that matter. I have room for one more :D

Ok... so if the pink hammer is there, I am going to join. (I remember you as the all-in-pink hammer from Cruisin the Conejo; it was a very nice pink setup!)

I hope you'll join, Shprung! I'm riding this ride for two reasons only (regardless of route, etc.) - the BF women (and men, too, but since we don't get a lot of women on the rides, this is shaping up to be a great group of gals!) and I need to get my July Century in and would rather do it with great company and after I need to burn off 5 million calories from my visit home (win-win). It's worth it to pay the $60 if need be as this will definitely be social (well, other than me chasing Vegas chick and the Pink Hammer - love that nickname!) :D

Cool! :) When is the Giro de Peninsula? I'm vacationing in No. Cal in late July (hubby's doing the Vineman triathlon, we're both running the SF Half Marathon--yeah, I know, some vacation! :p )
I'll be back in Ventura for the Cool Breeze in August--my first double metric. Looking forward to seeing all the BF girls (and guys :D )

I’m pretty new to this forum and would like to meet some of you!
If you see an old guy wearing a bikejournal jersey and climbing at 5mph please say hi :)

Were you @ Ojai last weekend by chance? I saw a guy with a Bikejournal jersey on, we were turning
left at that bad intersection and going on to the bike path in Santa Barbara ( I think we were in SB)

Sonia and I signed up for the half metric. Weeee!
I was on a ride yesterday from Ventura to Ojai and met up with the crew marking the route for the 3 Harbors ride. I can see it has it's moments but it shouldn't be a particularly difficult ride. Alot like Cool Breeze. Date is July 7.
They seem like a great bunch of people. Support the ride if you can. Plus riding up to Ojai is very cool.
Plus riding up to Ojai is very cool.
Well.....it was about 100 last year..so cool isn't exactly the word I would use;)
I had to stop in the shade near Lake Casitas and open my shoes because my feet we so warm! seriously!
Oh mmm that doesn't sound good. :(
Guess I'm glad I'll be in Montana and can't do the ride. Darn! :p
