Mr. Beanz

Down their PIEHOLES! I've been on nights for 3 years. I request days all the time. Nothing ever works out. Now they tell me that I'll never go on nights. There are a couple of us that know what we are doing. They say we are too valuable to nights and can't let us go on days. Poor management I say as the rest of the dorks get to sit around and collect a check for nothing. Main reasons I want dayshift is for the parents and my wife. Sucks when you only see your wife at lunchtime and weekends. Parents are like friends to us. When I was on dayshift, I'd always take them out for dinner on Fri nights. Sometimes the kids and their families depending on how much OT I got.
Another reason is riding. Sucks walking around till 3 am in steel toe boots, then getting up at 7:30 to go ride on the weekends. Training during the week sucks as my body doesn't respond immediately ater a few hours of sleep. I do so much better after a day of work, then the ride. My body is wide awake.
I tell my stupidvisor that I really need days now. He says be happy that I have a job as there are many people that can't find them. He says that I make good money and should just be happy with that. He says this is the best that I'll do right now, that I probably can't find another job that will match my pay. So I pull the ol 'I'll have to find another job' trick. Doesn't work cause I'm not one of the group tht goes out partying together at the strip joints. Why would I go to a strip club when all I have to do is flick the ligthswitch off and on while Gina dances for me?:D.... I save on gas too!:p
I'm thinking the whole time the guy is a friggin' idiot. I've never had problems finding a job. So I look thru the Yahoo jobs along with the classifieds. I see a job for QC dayshift. I apply and get an interview right away. The guys asks a bunch of Q's about blueprints, precision mesurement instruments. I answer 95 % correctly. The other 5 percent I just say, " I won't even pretend to know". Guy says I know a whole bunch about QC. I say I learned while working 13 years for General Dynamics before they left the state. Then continued with QC at other companies. He says he has a neighbor that worked at GD. He says his name and what a coincidence! Happened to be my brother's boss.
SO he says he'll get with me at the end of the week. I tell Gina about it and she says it sounds good. I tell her I have a feeling that I'll hear within the next couple of days. Guess what! They call first thing in the morning. I got the job, go take a drug test tomorrow then start after they get the results 2 or 3 days later. I figure on Monday. They matched the pay too! SAME PAY! DAYSHIFT!NO STEELTOE BOOTS! NO HARDHATS! AIR CONDITIONED WORK AREA!
The guys says I won't even get dirty unless I fall down!:D
The new boss asks if I need a 2 week notice. I said because you offered dayshift, I'm there!
3 SUCKY years on nightshift, apply and score a hit on the first shot? Ahhhhhh life is good!:D
It it grand to be able to tell our boss, "see ya, wouldn't want to be ya!".
Happytime

Great job, Beanz! You absolutely did the right thing. This was all I needed to hear:

Just horrible management. It is amazing to me that our education system offers virtually nothing in the way of management or personnel skills. And companies rarely offer any relevant training in those areas. You described about 5 classic and egregious management gaffes in just 3 paragraphs. That manager, and probably several above him/her, are the ones the company should have let go.

Congratulations, Fred. That is so wonderful. Really, really wonderful. I wish you the best. Those other people were too stupid for words, and did NOT deserve you.

That is true! I came from a well managed company so I could see how poor the mangement skills were. Many say wait for a couter offer but heck no, I'm outta here. The new place is much better. I can tell by speaking with the manager. I could tell he was more educated and had managment skills. I could see it in his eyes as he asked w questions and watched my hand gestures as I answered. Not unless he was checking out my funky cycling tan!:D

Thanx for the good vibes everybody. Nope, no steroids, EPO, or any drugs at all. Heck if I were into drugs, I'd be a much better climber!:D

Yeah, a four letter word. And the more I'm at home the more T-I-T-N (well whater Extort said) I get!:D
Better get some new sunglasses 'cause you'll be seeing alot more daylight now!
Congrats. Oh yeah, when you leave the old place, be all sweet and nice about it. "ah, gee, wish I could have stayed but I understand that you weren't able to open days for me and that's what I needed."
Why do that instead of laying into the guy? Because it will bug him more! See, if you get all "HA HA! UP YOURS..BLAH BLAH BLAH" it's easy to write you off. But if you are nice, then they will wonder how they messed up and blame themselves!

Most Business degrees have classes on Organizational Management and Leadership, however you can teach a person leadership, but they have to want to change thier attitude for it to work; most dont. The other problems is most managers get in for other reasons then displaying good managerial skills.
