Her's the low down. South Carolina has a diverse array of mountain bike riding. If you are interested in some descent ones just ask. sctrails.net gives a great guideline but nothing beats good 'ol word-o-mouth. If you are in the chalreston area, the only place worth riding is marrington plantation. It can be fast passed and fun, just watch for gators. The killer three loop up around sumter is good and so is harbison at columbia. FATS up in north augusta is probably the best and cole state park in spartanburg is great too.

I'll add Hunting Island State Park, just east of Beaufort, with about 12 miles of trail plus some outlaw trails. The trails there are pretty mild, but you can get a good workout none the less.

I'll then raise you Donnelly Wildlife Management Area, between Garden's Corner and Jacksonboro on US 17 near the junction with SC 303. The trails are multi user roads, so there may be motor vehicles to contend with, but I've only dealt with two in 30+ miles of riding out there other then SC DNR vehicles.

One more: Baker Creek State Park. 10 miles of arguably the toughest single track in SC. You are either going uphill or downhill with very few flat sections. Then there are drainage canals to help deal with any flooding from Strom Thrumond Lake (Clark's Hill Reservoir for those of you in Georgia) There is a campground there, like Hunting Island, so making a weekend trip of the place is doable.

Where is that? I'm coming from Beaufort on US 17 northbound into Chuck town on Savannah Highway.

The plantation itself is on the naval weapons station in goose creek. It is actually very easy to get to. You can find it on sctrails.net as well. The directions there are probably better than what I can give you. If you still need help let me know.

Looks like fun, but a $10 fee and a background check?

Has anyone out there ridden FATS in north augusta yet?
I have seen some wicked videos on youtube for it.
