Cipollini's sponsor still battling over wild cards omission

The Domina Vacanze team, still seeking some form of retribution for their exclusion from this year's Tour de France, announced today that the UCI has set this Friday June 27th as the date for an arbitration meeting.

Still voicing it's belief that the "unjust" omission of the team from the Tour was a "heavy violation" the team believes that a review of the UCI rules of selection for the Grand Tours, namely the "sporting requirement," will show that the exclusion of the team of reigning World Champion Cipollini was wrong.

The meeting is scheduled for the UCI offices in Lausanne, Switzerland at 11 am.

Please oh please dear lord let him ride.......

I agree he's good to watch, but let's face it, if he does ride it will only be until the first mountain stage - then he'll climb off.

I agree with chewa, but I seem to recall a quote from him stating that if his team was selected that he would ride the entire tour. I'd bet he'll do well until the mountains and then would come in after the time cutoff. This would give hime a legit excuse for abandoning. I think it would be cool for him to be there. I really dig the team uniforms.

Exactly.

I'd rather see early stages won by guys who will likely arrive in Paris.

nope, I'm betting that if Cipo gets in he will do
everything in his power to drag his carcass over the
mountain stages.
Given his drive to win, and showmanship, I can see
Cipo pushing really hard to win the final stage
on the Champs Elysées.

i wonder if he has what it takes to even win a stage. he looked really off form at the Giro. Granted he still pulled off a couple of wins. I think regardless of what he may do in the mountains, the rainbow jersey deserves the right to ride in the Tour.

I thought he just said he was in no shape to ride? He said he hadnt even been training. Could he be bluffing?

I think the team will not make this year. Next year the UCI is definately going to make some rule changes so those French bastards can't pick whoever they want to, but instead the teams who earn a spot in the tour get to go.

I'm going to miss Cipo this year, hopefully next year he'll be riding and will get in.

Well Cipo is flashy, and yes he's the current World Champion, and a great sprinter and cyclist, but the fact is he has never finished a TDF. From appearances it looks like he has never even tried to finish a TDF. So sorry, but it's the mountains of the TDF that separate the men from the boys, and , well, Cipo does not like uphill very much. Maybe the problem is who made it to World Champion and not who didn't make it into the TDF. It's not like he's in a top team either.

Actually (I'll have to check on this) I think the organization is Swiss. But I might be thinking of the UCI president.
