ummm... operative term being KID... he did say he was 14 right? Some folks are just too slow to ride in the street.

as the Sultan of Sidewalks, I command thou to be more vigilant in the future. if you ride on the walk that is side thou shoudst expect to get creamed. be thou warned.

dingster1: He said he was 16, IIRC. Someone ELSE in that thread was 14.

Anyway, he said he got away at 37 km/h. That's 23 MPH - did he set his computer to 700C or something?

I know a 14-year-old that can pull at 24 and sprint to 30.

MPH, not KPH? On level ground? On a sidewalk? I got to meet this kid.

In this case the sidewalk was the best place for this young man to be. I would much rather have a shouting match than a young cyclist killed by a car in heavy traffic.

On a level surface I used to be able to hit about 50 kmph in a flat out sprint on my mtn bike with knobbies on it. Not that hard if you ride a lot. So, 37kmph up a hill is not out of the question if he has incentive (and since someone was trying to hit him, he did...)

edit: I say used to cause I am not that fit anymore ;p

Yes, miles per hour and on level streets. We have sprinted up parking garages in downtown St. Petersburg and he leaves me in the dust. He is 5'9" and about 140 lbs and not much of a wind block. I'm not sure how he'd do on a long climb. He mountain bikes with his 6' 5" father but I have not ridden off-road with them yet.
