This is all new to me I'm going to be replacing my Pedals with some 2X Speedplay's and notice that pedals and cleats come with shims what are these for exactly?. Can someone explain or have a link on how to properly adjust things. If more info is needed please let me know as I will have 2 bikes to setup and would like to do this correctly.
Also or should I even be worring about the shims?

In order for the cleats to work properly they need to be perfectly flat. The shims are to help the cleat sit flat on a curved shoe. It should talk about all this in the directions

Thanks I haven't received them yet so I have no instructions to look at but wanted to know just what they were for. Thanks for the reply.

Jtgraphics: If you have no experience with these pedals... just a heads up... they can take some getting used to. The very free float.. is a little disconcerting for some at first. Just give them time. At the shop it is probably our biggest seller. well perhaps we might sell more of the lower end Spd type pedals for first time step in users... but I am not sure on that. We do sell a lot of them. We have only taken one pair back because the user did not like the float.

I myself do not use them [go figure] I have too many bikes and too many pedal systems... and never got enough time on the one pair to get used to them. My newest bike has the Look Keos [which I love]

Thanks Glenn
Can you tell me one thing, I'm getting 2 sets of the 2x speedplays for my tandem and one set of speedplay light action pedals for my commuter, I do have different shoes for commuting but are the cleats the same on the 2X & Light Action's or are they different? it would be nice if all were the same.... Thanks!

Speedplay discusses and posts all their directions on their
website. Just guessing www.speedplay.com
I use X pedals on my road bikes and the shoes are not
great to walk on, but no different than any other road
shoes in this regard. The cleats tend to last a long time,
but are expensive, like razor blades or printer ink. I usually
get 8-10k out of a pair. They are sensitive to crude in the
area where the springs spread into so if they get weird in
their clip in/out function that is the first area to check. A
bit of dirt, vegetation in there will limit the spring spread.

sorry for the delay.

I am not familiar with the new light action. we mostly sell the xs and the frogs.. we have had some have some problems with the zeros and I did not even know of the light action. From the cat. it looks like the light actions have a part in the cleat similar to a part in the zeros [not the part we have had trouble with] So my best GUESS is that you will need seperate shoes.
