Touring - End of the world: Last chance to buy parts!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Ok, what would you get? Our economy is collapsing and you figure parts and bikes will become unavailable or prohibitively expensive. Cars can't get gasoline and your left with your only bike and whatever parts and accessories you'll ever be able to obtain. What would you wish you had on hand?

Time travel device so i could go back to bike bliss.
Actually, i would say lots of tubes and spokes.. most of the rest of the parts of a bike can be fabricated in a good machine shop out of scrap metal.

I think if the world was coming to an end and/or another Great Depression was upon us, the last thing I'd worry about are bike parts.

You mean like the last of the HGH and other hormone/steroids before the liquid nitrogen storage finally evaporates?

a cow catcher would be fitted to my cage to clear the road of debris, such as smaller 2 wheeled human powered vehicles

You know, if(when) we have another great depression why would bicycle parts be low on your list? That doesn't make sense to me. A good/sturdy touring type bicycle and plenty of spare parts would be very important. I was thinking of things like a Bob trailer, racks, chains, tires/tubes of course, cables, brake pads etc.. Also I was hoping to get out of you experienced cyclists some specific brands etc.. like Schwalbe tires, Phil wood bottom brackets maybe. The kind of parts that would last the longest and be the most durable.

a good set of mavic steel rims... duraace or ultegra 36 spoke ups several boxes of spokes.. an extra bottom bracket dura ace or ultegra, probable and extra crank set, brake pads, brifters, two or three full sets of cables, and extra set of derailers.. the frame will prolly last forever or close but the components wear out with time... extra tires and tubes and maybe a bob to carry it all oh and tools to do the replacements

oh yea then i would head for the mountains of montana and just stay there... and i think a compound bow would be better than ammo... i can always make arrows...

Come to the realization that I should've done some actual bike touring before this world-wide disaster, and not spent all my time 'forum-bating' about what my dream touring bike's rear hub would be. (Phil Wood, BTW)

Pervert! - lol, gotta love the sick humor.
"End of the world: Last chance to buy parts!" Buy the parts? I'd steal them! Then use the bike parts to rise to power in this chaotic time, exchanging cheaper bike parts for favours with people who have little power, more expensive parts for property and hire military to control the masses in the dawn of this new world order. They would do my dirty work, keeping me safe from harm and those trying to take my empire. Bike parts would then become currency in this world of mine, paper money being obsolete, securing my position.
I will then use my power to create a civilization for everyone, they would look up to me and be in debt to my generosity. It will act as a smokescreen for the injustices I have done to get to that position. Everyone lives happily ever after.
I have it all planned out.... don't you worry.... get on my good side while you can.
Mummy... that bad man stole my bicycle.. parts.

A SS 29er and a lot of extra tires, tubes, etc. SS for the simplicity, by the way.
Additional tires/tubes for my road touring bike and trailer
Gunpowder for my reloader and a batch of lead to use molding new bullets and several thousand primers, I would guess, if civilization was going to collapse.
1 year or more supply of freeze dried food to cache
.
I 'd have to go for Schwalbe Marathon XR tyes
and Rohloff hubs, and oil change kits for them
Shimano Deore mechanical disks, and loads of spare rotors and pads for them
5mm allen bolts, I always seem to need them when touring
Tubes and tyres for my BOB
Loads of grease
for chamois creme, Loads of Sudocreme
Off the bike
Sunlinq solar panels and rechargable batteries
MSR Waterworks Ceramic water filters and spare filters
MSR Dragonfly stove ( works with any alcohol, eg Moonshine, Potcheen)

Chocolate.
Jibi, thanks I'm with you on most of your suggestions, (I need tubes for the BOB!) I like Katydyn water filters, either way I can't imagine anything more important than a good water filter.
Tom, good advise, especially for those that are packin.
Roadfix, do you know where I can find a XT750 rear derailleur?
Thanks Tuffwolf.
You know this same question could be asked, If you were planning a tour from Prudhoe Bay all the way to Patagonia, without a bike store in between, how would you outfit your bike and with what bike?

That's exactly how I came up with my list( except for the bike store bit)
