so after not driving for over a year and a half (epilepsy), the state gave me my license back. in the time since i lost it though my car had to go due to lack of finance.

i have been peddling to work for over a year now and even if i had a car i wouldnt drive the distance i work from home (6 miles round trip).

dilemma...

i dont make enough money where i work. not to live how i am currently living. i bring lunch to work, cook at home, and try to not buy new cycling jerseys all the time. but in order for me to really start saving for my future i need to have more cash flow. i may get promoted at work which would mean a transfer. or i may find another job which would mean a longer commute.

i dont want to get a car but it seems as though i have to in order to reach certain goals. had a prius before i had to give it back but dont think i can afford one now. i dont know what to do.

this is just a ***** session.

Since you don't have a car, just pretend it isn't an option. You've been carless for a year and half and you made it fine. How much farther would the transfer put you? Anything less than 15 shouldn't stand in your way that much. Rock the Casbah.

You've been doing great! I'm glad your health has improved to the point that you can get your DL back. I know that epilepsy is hard to manage, and requires a lot of patient participation, so you probably deserve a lot of the credit for management of the disorder. :)

I hope you can continue to swing the carfree thing. Sometimes it means bucking the trend a little. Is a supplemental job or starting a little business something you've thought about?

Car pooling an option? I pay a co-worker x-amount for how many times he drives me. Saves us both money in the end. I usually throw in a little extra for any inconvenience he has. Other than that, maybe check out bus routes. Worse case scenario there is you ride to or from the bus stop. For me, the bus ride actually runs longer than when I ride it. So I just bike the 30 mile rt. I might start bussing part of it since my last leg home is all up hill and it's getting pretty hot.
