As anyone who crosses it know, the Brooklyn Bridge is a mess. There is a walk side and a bike side, but because it is a tourist attraction that attracts groups of people not used to living in the crowds of NYC, you get a lot of people who don't look around them before they change direction/stop/turn around. The dangerous part is when they wander over to the bike side without really realizing it is an active roadway.

It is hard to blame them, however, because all the bike and pedestrian logos that are painted on the walkway are almost completely faded. HOWEVER, on my way to work this morning, I noticed that there is a bright new center line dividing the bike side from the walk side. Hopefully, repainting the center line is a prelude to repainting all the walk and bike logos too.

Does anyone have any information on whether or not this will happen? Or, am I just being too hopeful?

+1 on hoping for some fresh decals. This bridge is that one place where I have literally worn out bells to the point of breaking.

Air Horn. Have to pump it back up on the other side...but oh so worth it!

Usually only bad on the Manhattan half. Clears out on Brooklyn half usually. I ride it almost daily, but I really don't mind it all that much. If I were a tourist, I'd be on it too. I just wish more would be more aware of their surroundings. Just a few days ago, a cyclist hit a young women. Bloody. Medics had to come by.

take the manhattan bridge, even with the north side closed still, it's a dream compared to the brooklyn.

Manhattan Bridge? F-train that. :D

Williamsburg Bridge FTW. Fewer pedestrians, very wide path.

And yes, I do blame pedestrians for not knowing which side of the path to use on the BB. There's 400 freakin' signs on the bridge, and they ignore them all. I agree that on any MUP you shouldn't blast through at 22 mph, but you can't even cross the BB at 10 mph without some idiot getting in your way....

hence the manhattan bridge! it's basically a 1/4 mile from the BB and dramatically less crowded. plus it pretty much drops you off in the same areas. i don't know why so many cyclists take the BB when they could just go up a couple of blocks and have a much better ride (although the steps at the end kind of suck...i do admit).

All paths lead to the Brooklyn Bridge. Actually, aside from not having to take stairs, it's just a very nice, scenic bridge. I take the Manhattan when in a hurry (Also by flying down Flatbush instead of taking my time on the Park Slope bike paths).

+10000 on the Air Zound though. I generally try to avoid using it on peds, but when they're looking at you, as you're coming at them ringing your bell and STILL no reaction... that's when the Zound comes out. One second they're there, a blink and a push of the red button later, they're gone in a puff (sometimes a scream).

They painted it today. At least we go new bike lane decals. When I ride home tonight, I'll see if the pedestrian decals were done too. It's all white this time, instead of yellow.
