Well I think I'm going to be putting it up for sale and was wondering what would be a good price. the bike did'nt have the original seat or simplex post. the wheels were later changed out before i bought the bike.

Very nice bike. I was tempted to say you could ask whatever you want, but after seeing the pictures (condition & components) that's a very good question. I'm not an expert on Gitanes, but I'd expect to pay at least $300.00 for that. There are others here who know much more about these than me though, so wait for them. Because of events this weekend (the Cirque du Cyclism), you may not get the most authoritative answers for a few days.
Zorro stole my figure @ $300. There's a little rust, and is that ST foil decal scrunched at the top? If not and the decal is perfect then higher. This of course assumes that everything is in great working order, even that Delrin RD. The decal you're missing at the top of the ST is a 531 decal, in French of course. Cost about $10 on ebay. I'd buy one.
edit: after reading in another thread that a '73 schwinn supersport sold for $300 on ebay maybe I'm too low

Those replacement wheels could seriously hurt its value, depending on what they are.

Well, I know I'd love to find one like it. lol,
But I could see that hitting $300 on e-bay.

It's in incredibly good condition for an early '70s bike. My TdF is the best riding bike I've ever ridden. I still wouldn't bid on it until I found out what kind of hubs and rims are on it.

It will fetch 300 or so they often come and go for that on e-bay. Besides, 21 " frames are less common.

it is in actually very good condition, the rims and hubs i dont recall, but i do have some normany hubs somewhere
Looks pretty nice, but I have no idea of value. I sold one a few years ago for about 400., but it was the Campagnolo model but Mafac brakes. Not a bad bike, comparable to anything else in the original price range. 300. sounds fair either way.

Normandy hubs suck, but the Normandy Luxe Competition hubs that belong on that bike were good hubs. The Campy NR hubs that were optional were great hubs.

What is the difference between the two anyhow? I have some of each, but I have not got around to taking them apart. (future projects)

If it had the original tubular wheels, I'd say $350-$550 in that condition. With the cheesy wheels maybe $250-$300. Iy is very similar to a classic era Peugeot PX-10: same frame material, same components, and with this one, same color. I like it and would have bought it too.
