Have you ever had a automobile come up on you with only the driver in it while you and your stoker were having a great ride only to have the driver give both of you the usual bad time (horn, getures and body language) about being on his/her road?
When this happens to us, I always have to wonder....now here are two of us (both taxpayers) and one of him/her.....hmmmm, who has more right to the road at that point?! Of course legally, we all three have the same right to the road andmust adhere to the rules of the road so as not to bump into each other or others. But, if one person is going "crazy-chicken" on two others at that moment, do the "two" philosophically have more right to be there? And should they go about their ride like the driver was completly out of their mind and has lost touch with the rules of the road at that particuliar moment?
Of course, realistically we mind our own business and never show "much" of a reaction to the "test dummy" in the auto. And we ride on.
Just wondering if this has ever entered anyone elses thoughts when riding a tandem.

I have had fewer problems with idiots while on the tandem then on singles. I imagine it's either the novelty factor or the idiots are scared to death of my wife! :D

Might takes the right, or in other words you can be dead right. There are a lot of irrational and evil people out there, and it really doesn't matter to them what's right. Be cool, be careful.

Pat, of course you are right in what you say. We've ridden long enough to have realized this.
I think I miss stated our lack of response.....what I meant is we generally do not react to the auto occupant's raging gestures (honking, finger waving, shouting ETC) with gestures of our own. We do keep a weary eye on their physical actions, especially the auto.
We once had a guy stop his car ahead of us and get out and stand by the side of the road screaming at us. This situation was totally unprovoked! We stopped before we got to him, I pulled out the old cell phone and made sure he could see me dialing 911. That was enough for him and he left, we waited to make sure we weren't going to be car fodder before heading out again. Before stopping ahead of us, this guy had passed us with his window down and was yelling and screaming, 'course we couldn't understand what he was screaming about. But he gave us plenty of room while doing this. We gave him no return gestures, we looked of course because we were a bit startled.
There are diffently some weird people out there. When we think back on this incident, we think this encounter may have been a case of mis-identification. We think he might have had it out for someone else and thought we were them?! Because if he were intend on hitting us, he had ample opportunity to do so when he passed us, but instead gave us the whole lane....weird.
