Just so I can get this straight, who here rides mountain, and who here rides road?

Oh and if you want, post a pic of your bike to prove it. ;)

I used to go both ways. But I did an endo coming down a steep trail in the Marin headlands in December. Fractured my neck, injured my shoulder. Had to get helicoptered out. I decided to sell my mtbs at that point. Now, I just ride on the road, preferably on quiet country roads out here along Hwy1.

MTB is my preference.

Road bike is my commute + occasional century + quick fix when I don't have time to drive somewhere.

I voted both, but Im not so sure anymore. Ive become quite partial to road riding. Dirt is fun too, but doesnt compare to decending Kings Mt Rd at 35+mph.:D I may end up selling my squishy bike soon.

It's not so much road vs. mountain that I was wondering about, more along the lines of wondering if any of you do any riding that doesn't last for a hundred miles or more... :p

I'm a roadie ... is that bad? I just never got into off roading. Plus, not having a mountain bike is kind of an obstacle.

I do 20 to 30 miles during the week and as little as 34 on a weekend ride. But that 34 miler has 4500ft of climbing.;)

In the last week my longest ride was 20miles, but that was trail miles. About 3500 climbing, nothing like Sean. But Sean's a dirty roadie, I used to think he was so cool, being a mtbiker and all, but he's turned. *hangs head low in shame*

I'm just a mtbiker right now, but who knows, maybe I'll get that roadie from the lbs that's hangin' from the rafters. :D

I voted skinny tires. I have a mtb but that has skinny road slicks as well.

I ride mostly road because I don't like driving the bike somewhere to ride. I do have an MTB that sees maybe 4-5 rides a year.

Are you trying to limit me to only two types of bikes/trikes and riding ? Not happening! :p

;) :D

I was a skinny last season. This season, it seems like I've gotten back on the knobbies and been doin time on both. :)

I guess both my bikes are road bikes, but one is not a skinny tire type.

I swing both ways but...

I've had a mtb for years that I rarely ride and a road bike I ride a lot more since my friend got me into it last year.

I'm a road rider, because I'm primarily a commuter. We do our own thing though, so my 'skinny tires' are 740gram schwalbe marathon+ and I usually rock the REI panniers.

+1 to BR's sentiment about not wanting to drive the bike around.

I prefer tires size 25 -35 depending upon whether it's my race or touring bike.

I mainly use the road bike but also use the mtb when riding with my son. Different exercises, both a lot of fun.

Whatchutalkingbout, spinineer? You callin' me a roadie???

Sure, I'd ride with you. :) Jon, Bikingshearer and I are planning a ride sometime the end of June or start of July around Lake Merced and then some. Not sure. We were gonna post a thread when we get it together.

What's wrong with being a roadie? I just never got into off roading ... maybe I just didn't hang out with the cool crowd???

I wouldn't mind taking the MTB out as well. Skeggs is always fun but I've been meaning the check out Arastradero, Water Dog Lake, and others.
