You could take a bicycle (and any necessary spares) to any time and place in history. What kind of bicycle would you take, why, and who would you show it to, and what would you do with it?

I'ld take my tandem to the Garden of Eden and show it to Adam & Eve. They'ld be too busy riding to be distracted by any serpents, and life would have been easier for all of Mankind.

I would give Lewis & Clark mountain bikes. Would have made their trip much easier. Oh, and some spare tubes and a pump.

I would take bikes back to my leader on the Mother Ship and continue planning the destruction of all mankind.

Just sayin'.

I've often thought mtn bikes would have made Frodo & Sams trip a lot easier. Fitting Gimlie would have been chore though.

You would get flamed for spooking the dark riders horses.

I'd take one, any one, back to me in June of 1981 and say here, go for a ride today, do not go to the lake and lift that Evinrude out of the back of your truck. Trust me on this one, it'll save you a lot of pain and suffering over a lot of years. Oh and by the way, KEEP riding it, that will save you even more!

Paul Revere probably could have used a fast cross bike.

I'd like to see what Archimedes would have done with a 1970s Japanese 10 speed. Putting that technology in the hands of the ancient greeks, I bet it would have changed history.

I'd take a few carbon fiber bikes back to 1998. That's just two years before the guy who got me into cycling passed on. I lived in an apartment above my small community's LBS and he was the shop mechanic. His name was Harold, and he was quite a character. His work bench looks like a disaster area.... stuff all over the place. Yet he always knew where everything was. He loved the old stuff (could take apart a Sturmer-Archey internal hub and put it back together with blinding speed), but was always interested in the newest technology. He never got to ride a carbon frame, the shop closed shortly after he retired. So, he only read about them, and never actually got to see one. I'd like to give him that opportunity.
