Not that I'm training for anything, but I was on an empty MUP last night and have heard so much about intervals that I figuerd "What the heck". So I got onto the big ring, stood, and went as hard as I could for about a minute ot two, hitting around 25mph. Then cool down and do it again. I probably did this 8 or 10 times.
There might be something to this. My legs hurt like hell today.

Yep, that'll happen. I don't do as many intervals as I used to, but still incorporate them into my riding. I always get a buzz knowing that I can make a bicycle so 25+ MPH on my own power without any downhills.
Keep it up and you'll be doing 30 mph on flat ground!!!
When I see that the path that I ride is clear ahead, I would do my sprints or interval to see how much this old body can push the maximum. I would do it again and again whenever I get to an area clear of traffic and pedestrians. Clocked myself one time for 24.9 MPH and that is on a folding bicycle. What a feeling that is.
