"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Speechless....

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

What is it with BF today? Between this and Team Starbucks, I'm losing faith in female cyclists.

They should make all convicted ******* look at this picture every time they wake up in the morning. It completely takes any sense of libido and sufficiently thrashes it into the ground.
Sorry, I don't recognize the first one.

There was a thread a little while ago about why there are so many overweight female cyclists versus male cyclists. The CW was that it was mostly perception. But I still hold to the theory that most female cyclists are not getting into it to race. Therefore, to them, it is the equivalent of a liesure activity versus a pain/suffering/competition activity. So they do not ride as hard or train as often, and in addition, because they cycle, they think they can increase their food intake as if they are Lance Armstong 2-weeks into the tour. Or Greg Lemond now.
Also - this was a track cyclist versus a road cyclist. Most track cyclists (even males) have larger thighs and are not the weight weenies road cyclists are.

The woman's name is Amara Boursaw, and her Track Palmares are pretty darn good, including 2nd place Pursuit in the 2006 Junior Track National championships.
If you want to judge her, at least judge her on her cycling abilities and accomplishments.

Forget about the the initial post and check out the crash section on the website. Who needs rubber necks when you've got resources like this?

I dont really feel bad for thinking that photo is hilarious.. It looks silly to me when cyclists dont shave their legs.. but its expected from a few guys in every race.. but seriously.. what is she thinking?

I coached a Cat 2 woman who was on the larger side. She could ride me out of her draft (I was still in my burned-out phase, and not racing again yet). She could pull off wins in the Tuesday Nighter Bs here in Austin, and hang with the As.
Hey, that's what I'm doing these days. WTF?
Anyway, she was very fast, and not thin. She always said she wanted to work on it, but it just never happened. I couldn't have cared less, as I was just a tactics/strategy coach for her, and she always ended up in 4:00 breaks with the same two women every week anyway.
EDIT: She also shaves her legs ;)

There are a couple 'overweight' male & female cyclists who can out-motor me on the flats (and downhill...my 138 lbs just don't pick up that much inertia darnit)...a lot of watts coming outta their large(r) thighs. I get them back once we reach an incline.

I am not saying that there are not committed female cyclists. I got dropped going up Deer Creek Road last Saturday. But I think in general, there is either something physiological where women have a tougher time losing weight from cycling, or as I suspect, a majority of female cyclists chose cycling because it was easier than running or other sports, and they coast when possible.

This thread is terrible. Give the girl a break. Someone has already pointed out that she's a junior. You're offended that she hasn't shaved her legs. Come on.
And this whole thing about women cycling because it's easier than running and because you can coast. . . that's really the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. People pick their sport, or leisure activity if that's their preference, because they enjoy it. For you to rip on this girl based on her weight and her unshaven legs is completely unjusitifed and terribly childish.
Mods, please close this.
