Bicycle Mechanics - Noise in old Rolf wheels

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

This is my only ride, so I hope someone can help. I have a 4-yr old Lemond Zurich with Rolf wheels (Vector Comp?). I'm hearing a rhytmic whoosh, whoosh from the rear wheel. I thought it might be the hub, but the sound is loudest at the rim if I put my ear right up to the spinning wheel...(sound location can be misleading, of course). There is no binding on the brake pad. I'm very limited in my budget right now so I'm trying to avoid taking it in to the LBS.

ROLF wheels are good ,but I have heard of the spoke nipples being stuck inside of the v section of the rim from the factory. Try this : put the bike in a stand and spin the wheel as fast as possible and stop it with the brake as fast as you can. This will let you know if there is something inside of the wheel.
