Yes I am a roadie, but on Sundays, I turn into a downhill skater. Thought the BF crowd might enjoy the scenery.

You're cutting those left hand turns very tight there...

It's quicktime, so it should work on pentium & up.
In the vid, Dangerman and his buddies are rolling down GMR on inline skates.
It looks fun in the vid, but I know that even on a bike I sometimes get scared. Before I try it with inline skates (which I suck), I'll need to learn how to fly on my own first.

Definitely a cool video. But it's one thing to risk your own safety... endangering others is something else altogether. I wouldn't want to be climbing up that hill when you and your buddies decide to cut that corner.

That is just nuts. At least you aren't street luging down GMR.

I hear what you are saying.
We're a bunch of over 40 year old guys, most with families, so we take safety very seriously. One of our new guys got a stern lecture after that run about cyclist going up hill (from me). I assume you're talking about one of the lefts on the mid-lower section of GMR.

You crack me up. Watching that video and then hearing you talk about safety is like me proclaiming I'm a health-nut... but I just really love the taste of Fugu!

If I wore the same level of protection cycling as I do skating, then I'd be nuts.
kevlar motorcycle track suit, body armor, a full face helmet and gaunlet leather gloves. Compare that to four years ago when I wore shorts and knee pads. My first crash on GRR was my first intro to Tegaderm.

Wow! Okay, I would make it all of four feet and fall on my bumpus, but you guys make it look sexy! Nice videos, DM. :D
I'll take a look tonight. dangerman's vids always grab my attention.

Bumpus. must remember that one.
Thanks!
I've always wanted to shoot cyclist using this style. I need to get an OCP crew together on GMR. I'll bring out an HDV camera for that. Wide angle lens, very close, yada yada.

OCP? HDV? Should these go in our slang thread? :p Sorry, I'm technologically-challenged.

HDV = high definition video
OCP = obsessive compulsive ? someone help me out here.
The resolution of HDV is much higher than regular old digital video (DV). HD-CAM is even higher resolution, but I'm not going to skate down the hill carrying a $75k camera with a $10k lens.
Maybe someone will loan me their RED camera when they get it ;-) . For the layman, RED was started by the founder of Oakley sunglasses, and has designed and built, but not shipped yet, a very high resolution digital cinema camera. I saw a demo recently, and the images are quite astonishing, even on a 30 foot wide screen.

I just realized the folly of my statement "we take safety seriously." Given my moniker is "dangerman" who the F am I kidding.

That was cool. I used to downhill skateboard, and GMR was a legendary road, that I never ended up skating.

Is that what it's called when they're using what looks like oversized skateboards, lying on their backs? When I was up there the weekend before last, there was a group going down GMR doing that. One of the guys came seriously close to me around a corner (as I was climbing). Scared the crap outta me!

Tegaderm rocks. I have enough problems keeping my bike upright on GMR. Don't need to try it on suicide skates.
Nice video though. Always a fan of your stuff.
Must be quicktime...
Mine imploded on the PC.
havn't been able to get it to work for months now...
But to sound like I saw it...
Man those are some rad turns... your really flyin'!!!

I do color correction, and this is my work.
very cool :D
More than 1/3rd in just before the left hand hairpin did you see the smole coming off the skate as he was scrubbing off speed? WOW!!

Cool vid dangerman but the music got me thinking some dude gonna jump out the bushes with a samurai sword and start swinging:). What recording and editing equipment/software are you using?

looks like something I'd done in high school minus the leather suit. We used to bomb 8% grade hills backwards and jump over the 2 sets of railroad tracks at the bottom.

FCP 6, and will use Color to color correct it tomorrow. other details...5TB xRaid, dual 2.5Ghz G5, ati xt1800, 4Gb Ram, Sony BVM-xxx-xxx 23 inch HD monitor, yada yada. We were a Final Touch facility, and put up with a lot of BS when Apple bought Silicon Color. I'm using this video to figure out what Apple did to our app.
The music was Venetian Snares "Senki Dala" off the album Rossz Csillag Alatt Született.

I color-corrected (http://homepage.mac.com/timothyhuber/downhill/iMovieTheater88.html) the video, and now GMR has a saturated blue/green crushed blacks, dreamworld-look.
this is CC_v1. Still need to feather some of the vignettes and make final tweaks, but its close to final
