i got a Kona Cinder Cone, it is an aluminum frame XC bike, it is about a month old.

i was riding it 2 days ago and i started to hear a slight cracking/popping sound from near the left pedal. i have been riding it for the last few days and whenever i go up hills while standing it makes the sound very loud (other people can hear it).

seems to almost be twisting under pressure. is this normal to hear these things while breaking in a bike? or is the bike breaking?

Could be a ton of reasons, take it back to the shop you got it from and they should check it over for you, sounds like the left crank arm may be loose.

Not supposed to do this!!

Sounds like the BB is a bit loose. Or a crank arm. Don't keep riding like this, you can seriously mess up your frame ($$$!) or your cranks ($$) or your bb. ($) Get it checked out and torqued down.

In addition to the above, I had a loose pedal that sounded like that.
